You know I see, hear and know of more folks that have made one of the worst mistakes a hog dogger can make. It is a mistake so easy made but so damaging to the person and he don't even realize what he has done. Until he goes to try and replace what he just sold. The mistake am talking about is people selling their best dog for some reason are another thinking it can be easily replaced when the time comes for that person to get another dog are get back into hog dogging for what ever reason he sold it in the first place. This is not singling anybody out I get calls all the time people saying they are trying to find a good dog like the one they had are the ones they had before they got out are what ever. I know people that have looked for over a year and still could not find what they were looking for. This is a hard hard hard lesson for a man to learn but I can promise you if you are ever in this situation you will so realize that replacing old such and such who was a great dog is not so easy these days. There is lots of good dogs out there but just not that many people willing to release them . I know people that are looking now to replace dogs like the ones they had and it is just almost impossible to do it unless you know somebody and still its a damn chore because it takes lots of hunting dogs to get dogs like the ones they had and it is a time consuming thing to raise pups up . So man some of you young guys thats got a great dog are a few good dogs you might want to think long and hard before you seen Ole so and so down the road.
Just some friendly advise from a middle aged man ! ahahahahahahahahahah!

It aint easy boys, but i think oklahoma needs 5 to 10 years to catch up with the hog problem in texas, when it does i know thats when the frustration of finding one will really set in,i feel like the folks on this sight are like my american family since my first kin are all back in oz,so when it does come time to find a good one i have a pretty good list of names that i will be hitting up for a pup, your on it jimbo, right along with matt aggie, krystal, marvin, lionandboarhunter, craig, I could go on and on but there are some true mentors in this sport that im sure will have a runt or two laying around ready for a fellow dogman to raise and train if the time is right!

I was about out of dogging earlier this year, but didn't sell out for this exact reason. I sent my best dog to a friend to be hunted, but retained ownership. Now that I feel like hunting some more, I have her back at the house. She is no superstar, but would be hard for me to replace.
Ive only got three hog dogs now, but feel I have as good a shot at catching big bad now, as I did when I had ten or twelve dogs.
Something I keep in mind though, hog dogging is a hobby for me, I don't need it to care for my family. So if it was to ever get in the way, I wouldn't think twice about selling out.
Used to be a guy on here that talked about his dogs coming down the line from his grandfather, and that the line meant more to him than his own wife and kids.... Talk about some f'ed up priorities....

I almost sold my Lacy dog a while ago. I could have bought a couple good dogs for what I had the chance to sell her for and I needed the money. Lost alot of sleep over it, but Im sure damn glad I got her. I really dont need any other dogs besides her and cd. So this makes it nice on the pocket book with my feed bill. Feeding three grown dogs and one pup and still catching alot of hogs is as good as it gets. Quality over Quantity! Just wish I had the money and room for about 30 breed quality dogs

I used to have some fair dogs in my back yard...and I was hard nosed about breeding right and keeping the best no matter what. Then in 2007 I thought long and hard and got rid of all my dogs and my wife cried. I thought I never would get back in and it has been about 1.5 years now that I have gotten back in... and I probably will have some decent dogs by the next 3 or 4 months but nothing like I owned before. I am a firm believer in breeding my own because that is where the very best come from as long as the bloodline and selection process is right. The other good dogs come from friends and they usually are free or very reasonably priced... I have seen some good dogs get sold that shouldn't of been sold because these dogs were the kind that are hard to replace... Usually it was young men that lucked out into a good dog and really didn't know that good dogs are hard to find or replace...until after the fact...
