i've been looking for a trailer and haven't found exactly what i want yet so i figure why not make what i'm looking for instead of settling on something i don't really want.  i'm gonna make one with a 4 hole dog box on front, side load 4wheeler and a hog bog with sliding door and divider on the rear.  i have a few questions before i start building...

what size box do you guys recommend to hold 2 medium size dogs comfortably, maybe 3 in a box for short trips.  and what size for a large dog like a dogo or bulldog (just 1 to a box maybe 2 for short trips).

and what size do you recommend for a hog box??

i'm also gonna make or add an aftermarket toolbox, and a water tank as well.  maybe a hoist later on depending on how much everything else costs me.

anybody have any recommendations for material.  i was looking to use expanded metal instead of cattle panel but i need to check cost on it.

the expanded metal is expensive and heavy might want to go with the 4x4 square hog panel.  What you are building is exactly what I am wanting to build too.  If someone went into buisness building that exact trailor you mentioned I think they would get rich in a hurry.  The hoist is easy and pretty cheap if you look around for the crank.

JMO
when i build my trailer  i plan on using 2x4 for the simple reason  is some dogs (gyps and young) can gat thier head triugh it and its not pretty when 2 gyps get to fighting and one get her head hung on the otherside and one gets really  messed up
on the frond i am going to come 16 in up or solid  to keep tire splash and gravel from hammering the dogs
lastly i will put a rail around it about a foot to tie  things  down and to keep me from rolling off the top  if i passout .. i mean take a nap Wink

i plan on covering the entire front of the trailer to keep the wind and road debris out.  gonna use two vents per box that i can adjust the air flow on.  probably use sheet metal for the front and top of the box (plan on rhino lining it in the future), and the railing around top of the box is a given  Wink.   maybe i can use the expanded metal to seperate the boxes it would still allow air flow but they couldn't stick their head through.

My only advice would be to use as much expanded metal as possible and smaller the holes the better.  The reason why is the public.  I have had children and adults come up to my trailer at gas stations and start trying to stick their fingers through the expanded metal to pet dogs and hogs that arent pets.  God loves stupid people, or he wouldnt have made so many! Wink

this is what i'm worried about.  i've had people come up to my truck and try to pet my dogs in the box.  now, none of my dogs would harm anyone but what if one of em gets a wild hair up it's ace??  lot of trouble i don't want.

It always better to be safe than sorry.  I dont think my dogs would either, but you never know what kids or strangers are going to do.

well i'm gonna have 9 long months to build it so i should be able to take my time and think about each part before i start putting it together..  maybe get a few more ideas from you guys.

i really do like the idea of using the expanded metal on it to keep people from be able to put there hands or fingers inside.  i'll have to see what the weight difference is per panel of expanded compared to cattle panel 4x4.
