Not sure how you can break em from it. Ive seen a few dogs make a habit of running roads until they find a track. One ole boy just thought he had a hum dinger of a long range dog.

What kind of handle do you have on him?

I found out the other he was road hunted for along time and he did pretty good so it's gonna be hard to break him.  I placed him with a friend who roads hunt to test him to see if heis actually a cull or just set in his ways as a road hunting dog.

To answer your question BoarNinja, there isn't much of a handle, he can definitely be peculiar at times.

If your asking what Parker dogs made him, he'd be a Jeanie x Ratchet cross.  Do you know anything about the cross or the line?

I was just wondering. The one thing in common with the few road runners I've seen is that they didn't have any handle on them.
Sorry I don't have any tried and true training/correction tips for you. Ive got my own ideas but the fact of the matter is that ive never tried to break one from that habit. And thats what i think it is. Sure hope you get him sorted out. He sounds like he wants to find a hog bad enough.

You can try clipping him tight next to another slower paced dog while hunting him works on getting them out sometimes why not slowing em down?

That sounds like a real good way to get two dogs wrecked if they find a hog...

i would keep him on a lead and try to walk in some where that is ate up in fresh hog sign and cut him loose and see if he can bay one up? it seems that if hes a hog dog a few times doing this he may figure out the woods are where the hogs are? but if he keeps leaving fresh sign and just keeps running roads and not finding hogs i would cull him i dont care what his bloodlines are?

If you feel you need to cull him send him this way or let me know. All my dogs get roaded here on this ranch he won't get out. High fenced tight lol he can road till he invents a hog or bumps into one no matter to me just put one on the end I don't need to see him till he's bayed anyway.
