To me mother nature is about balance...man...the most intelligent animal on earth and who is capable of reasoning...is cheating mother nature with all the modern technology...but one day Mother Nature will take it back and bring us back in balance...could be war, disease, or just global cleansing...

Mother Nature does not make mistakes because GOD set it up that way... Smiley

She can be cruel but the end result is what matters...kind of like pruning a bush so that it can bear more and better fruit...

So why is it that wolves, coyotes, an foxes have prick ears? I read a theory on it and it made lots of sense to me... Even though these animals are predators they need to be alert and guard against other predators. So when the sleep the ears are still working so they can flee if needed. Also the ears can pin point the exact locations of their prey.

following the same line of thinking...have you noticed the body builds of these animals? All three have a coat that sheds in the hot months and gets thick for the winter months...All are built the same except for the different sizes. They have perfect body structure for speed, stamin, and quickness... The chest is not too wide for endurance the ribs are not too sprung for speed, yet the ribs run deep and become sprung further back for wind capacity, yet does not interfere with movement. The top line is straight, never swayed or roached....

Prey on the other hand have large ears and excellent eyesight and are usually fast so that some can get away and breed another day...

I reckon we call this evolution...It depends on how much pressure the prey is getting as to how fast they evolve...or disappear if they can't "ADAPT"...

Getting back to the Coyote...these suckers are like pigs...they can adapt to quite a few environments...

But the coyote can skip a breeding season when times are hard...they can inbreed without too many problems...but mother nature is always at work behind the scenes...She culls the weak pups...The parents probably are dominant and retain the best place to hunt and raise pups. The sire is a coyote that fought for the female so he is of the best quality.

Years ago mother nature corrected the biggest issues with the coyote and now just makes sure that only the best can survive to adulthood.

Mother Nature does not make mistakes but we as dog breeders constantly make mistakes...

We have to vaccinate purebred pups because they will die if we don't...They say it is because the gen pool is not diversified enough...but the coyote is probably just as tight...

We have a lot of undesirable traits in our dogs because we simply do not know or we just don't have the heart to do the right thing according to mother natures rules...sometimes it is greed because every puppy saved is more money in the pocket...

These are my ramblin's...let's hear some of yours...

Ruben, I couldn't agree more about Mother Nature making everything right again. I too believe there will be a day where we all have to adapt to survive. I hope I do not see it nor my children... I think that Newton's law proves true here as well... For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. She will figure out what needs to happen to put the planet back in sync... Who knows if we'll be here afterwards or not. Good post!
