Took my jagd b!tch, TRACKER, a 10 mo old Jagd male from Nebraska, DIESEL, MY geriatric cur mix, FRAN, and my American Bulldog, LIL BOBO, out for a spin today on my property. Havent seen any sign or hogs since they bayed Halloween evening, but got a young boar on camera last week and seeing some rooting. Figured some of the old boars run him off from the sows, so figure must be some pigs back in the area i'm not seeing. Just a refresher, I'm the last house on the end of the road, my neighbor and i both have 52 acres, and our land opens up to woods that just about run up into tennessee. DEEP valleys in front and back of my house, aint no flat land walkin, its up and down 200-300 foot valleys and feeder ravines. Walking , my female jagd is a hunting fool, my 10 mo old jagd is hunting right with her. My old cur mix is mostly a help dog, and will catch if she dont get poked too bad, if she does, she'll back off and bay. My bulldog has been to one bay, and yesterday, i brought a shoat home and he got real fired up over it. Anyway, they go out 50-75 yards, then check back in. Jagds are out any where from my feet(as they pass by) to a coupla hundred yards out. We head out north , following an atv trail that winds down in elevation to the creek. Hit the creek, and double back towards town, to check out a couple of cameras i have out. Dogs never act piggy and we walk a coupla hours, letting them work, etc Decide to head back, retracing our path. Tracker with Diesel in tow head croos the creek, Fran crosses too. Then you hear the jagds baying and the pigs rallying. They are about 70-100 yards past me and up the other side of the ravine somewhat. Start towards them, bulldog with me. Then i hear squealin about 50 yards in other direction. Fran is caught and i figure it aint to big or she'd be bayin. I figure i'll go to caught hog first, tie it , then head to bay. Now, bulldog is excited and is heading to Fran and caught pig. The stuff on this side of the creek is double thick, privet and briars. Getting through it, i see fran on the pig, got its ear, about a 80lb'er or so. Getting through privet and look down, then see pig break and zip past me. Now i'm headin to the bay, and it's moved and breaks. I get my two jagds, thank goodness, and we head to where garmin has old fran chasing that lil pig. She 's 700-800 yards heading out of town, away from my house. Well, go to her and she doubles back to where she bayed, got her, then my lil Tracker dog heads out in direction the bay broke, i hated not to hunt it out, but am on call and was takin a huge chance running dogs in the first place, so finally got her gathered back in, and us old folks, me and fran, and the rest of the crew made it to the kennels . I sure was proud of em. It aint much compared to some of the Texas hunts i read about, but, man, my lil pack is just getting better and better. I'm real happy with Tracker, since i've had her, she has been on about 5 or 6 bays for me. My lil Diesel hunted oit with her, never saw him cept when he went past me. And i coudnt see the bay, but he was right with her, i heard em both baying while the hogs were rallying. My old gal fran does what i know she'll do, help out and catch what she can, and bay the hair off anything bigger. And my bulldog got real excited today, he was running to the caught pig when i looked to get throughh the mess, and sounded like he hit the pig, but then was when i saw the pig run past. So he may have busted it for fran , not sure. But i plan on working himand a few others i have til i get one catchin. Thank ya'll for enduring kind of a small hunt, comparitvely, but i tell, ya, i'm tired, but pretty dang happy with how my crew worked today. On top of that, got my lil fourtrax atv back up and runnin when i got home, and tracker and fran will rig, so hopefully, i'll be able to take advantage of that next walk around
