I have a female with puppies, I went outside this morning and she can barely move. Now she is poor because her puppies dragged her down but I pulled them from her 3 days ago. The poor condition mixed with the heat cause her to get milk fever. To treat this yourself you give a high dose of calcium vet said 6-8 tablet of the highest mg you can find and do it again 4 hours later. Plus dry there milk up, now this is a first for me but you take raw cabbage and apply it to the teets and wrap it really tight do this twice in the day and the female should start doing better. Hope this helps someone because I never knew any of this

Best to get calcium glusonate at the feed store. 16 cc's in the mouth 3-4 timess a day. If u catch it in time u can tape up the bad nipples and let the pups suck on the rest. Milk the bad ones out by hand a couple times a day till they soften up then they will be fine. I've had to do it on about 6 different females and they will get it back every litter but it works. She died the next day they said it was a mixture of that and she at poison ivy
