My buddy Dean and I turned loose at 7:30 Saturday morning and the dogs rolled out. Both of our wifes and all of our kids wanted to go and one of my four wheelers is in the shop so we put the wifes and kids on Deans RZR and the other four wheelers and Dean and I rode horses. All we used to hunt on for years was horses because our dogs hunted better off horses and its easier to sneak up on a hog without it breaking on a horse. It took awhile for our dogs to get used to hunting with 4 wheelers when we first swapped over. But it's easier to load 4 wheelers than saddle and haul 10 horses ! HAHA ! The place we were hunting is 4,500 acresandwe startedd on one side and hunted our way to the back. We saw lots of sign but it was all old. The dogs were burning the woods up but I was starting to get worried because I have'nt come back without a hog since before deer season of last year. At about 11:00 we came upon a fresh big track. We waited for the dogs to roll back in and when they did my Daisy gyp picked up the track and took off But I knew by the direction of the track that she was headed in the wrong direction. We watched her take it 1,000 yds. on the Garmin and then turn around and come back. She blew right by us and went 150 yds. in the other direction and fell bayed. Its funny how alot of times a dog will go the wrong way on a hot track. Anyway, we rode within 50 yds and cut the catch dogs loose and the boar never broke, he was all fight. We got him caught and tied. He cut 5 dogs up. He gutted Deans black cur. He had 3 ft. of guts hanging out but they were not punctured. We wraped them up in my shirt with vet wrap and our wifes took him to the Vet. They put them back in and sewed him up and he is doing fine. The boar weighed 262 lbs. at the buyer.
