You know I been thinking about it . I see so much being made of this dog will range a mile and a half and this dog will range a mile are this dog is no good because he is to short range and so on and so fourth . I myself have had long range dogs , Medium range dogs and Short Range dogs and some dang good ones at that all ranges. Now I know some say they have to have this are that and I can understand that but do not make the mistake of thinking you have a great dog just because he ranges out two miles .
To me the bottom line is this .
A dog that will produce pork on a consistent basis day in and day out that is what a real dog is no matter the range sure some will have a bad day here and there. The range does not make a dog . Producing hogs is what makes a dog. I understand nobody wants one under there feet but dont be to quick to judge a dog . To tell you the truth I dont even know what to call my dogs no more hell they just hunt till they find hogs sometimes its short sometimes its med sometimes it long and sure there is days when we get noting but there is a lot more days when we are in the pork. So I myself think all this range stuff is just blown way out of proportion and to much is made of it when it comes to judging just what kind of dog you got . Hell if people judged dogs like this mine would all be number 2 dogs a lot of the time but guess what at the end of the day we got pork aint that what really counts!

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog...

I agree. I'm new to this but recently pickin up few small spots tp hunt a short range dog is all I really need. Altho I'm sure my kemmer would range out like his siblings are.
I dnt think range makes a dog good or bad but what I dnt like is a dog by my feet or rolling around in the leaves n pissin n chittin everywhere instead of having their nose to the ground.

It all depends on WHERE and HOW you hunt!
I don't like having to find the sign for my dogs, I enjoy putting them on the ground and they go and find the hogs. Any dog that produces hogs on a consistent basis will work for me though. Some are just more aggravating then others.

Thats how I do it man I put my dogs on the ground and let my dogs hunt for the sign . We dont ride around looking for sign some how that seems ass backwards to me but I can understand if someone wants to do it that way just different ways. My old dogs stay in pretty decent shape like this also and I think one reason they are so heat resistent . A lot of times it may seem like my dogs are not doing that much but they are always nose n the air are nose on the ground it dont take much and they are gone on a track . A lot of my dogs do a lot of barbwire sniffen and leave out once they get a nose full of what went under it are rubbed on it . Anyway hell just me and how I think about it . Pork is pork weather it is two miles off bayed are 200 yds off bayed .
