I don't know if it's right or not but I treat bulldogs and bay dogs different as far as starting them. I'll show a bay dog a shoat at 12 weeks but the bulldog won't see one till about 10 months. If a bay dog pup does what you want it's just gonna bark. If a catch dog does what you want then he's gonna catch. It's always been the teeth issue with me. Just the way I was taught.

Oh, and don't worry if the dog starts slow. My 3/4 Pitt-1/4 Cat danced with the pig first time, caught soft on the second trip and hammers and latches down now. I've never seen a bulldog that wouldn't catch.

Next!
I second that NEXT!! You don't want a dog that you don't know if its going to let go or not when you get in there to catch, DO YOU?? somthing to think about.....If it was me, I would move on to the next one. Just saying.

Thank you t bob I really have never tried to start a cd. So that is my fault for tryin to start her ..I guess ill start asking before I do next time.. guess your right Bout internet talk on that subject .
You didnt do anything wrong by starting your pup early. It all boils down to personal preference. There are several of us on here that have multiple generations of proven catch dogs and most of us start pups early in order to evaluate our litters and keep things moving in the right direction. You just have to be smart about it and be mindful of there teeth. The training method i use has worked well and i havent had an issue with teeth at all. When u can give them exposure to there future job with out putting them at risk, it gives them an edge when u do take them to the woods for the real deal at a year old. Really no different than doing pig drags with cur pups. Feel free to pm me if you would like the details on what has worked for me. I would be happy to help. God Bless, Britt Garcia

No sir id get rid of her cant have that at all. Thats when you get your dogs cut or killed because of bulldogs letting go. To many good cd out there to stick to one that is half ass.

Keep it fun for the dog. Dont just let it catch everytime. Tie it up and make her want it then let her get some but not for long. As long as you see interest at that age your good. Plus the whole teeth situation is correct. I had a pup turn on at that age and i notice he wasnt holding on good he kept knawing at it and it was cause both his canines were gone.
