There was a thread a couple of weeks ago about this. Well, I got a new smart phone, Samsung Galaxy, about a week ago. Thursday morning I did what is known as a "brick". I rode my road bike for 20 miles then scrambled to quickly set out on a 6 mile run. I had stopped to send a quick text while on the ride. The phone was in a zip lock bag. I must not have sealed it adequately. When I finished the ride, I had to lock the bike up, change shoes, etc. and do it quickly. I put the phone in a waist pouch. I am known as a "puddler" because I sweat so heavily.
When I got home, I pulled out the phone. Ooooops. There was sweat inside. I thought I might have ruined the phone. The screen was blank. I removed the back and the battery. I knew not to try to turn it on until it had totally dried. Put it in a bowl of rice for over 24 hours.
Wallah! It is working fine now. Whew! Just knew I was going to have to make an insurance claim. Instead, the rice did the trick.

RL, it is just a coincidence that the rice seemed to work.....from what I gave read on the phone forums anyway, there is a detailed thread on why it doesn't work and why folks think it does. It also gives the best way ti actually dry them out and try to save them. Search the DROID boards and see if you can find it......before everyone says rice saved there phone it prolly was gonna be ok just drying out anyway from what I have read.

I had the first Galaxy two years ago and dropped it in the San Bernard (salt water down here). Finally found it and took the battery out. Got home and completely submerged it in rubbing alcohol over night. Took it out and let the sun dry it out for several hours. Worked perfect for a year and a half til I cracked the screen. Got the Galaxy S2 and busted my butt in a ditch while hunting about a month ago. Phone was soaking wet in my back pocket. Did the same thing and it works perfect unless its on the charger. When on the charger it wont let me draw the unlock pattern. We also did this to my daughters IPOD touch after she dropped it in the toilet. Works perfect to this day.

I had an iPhone in my shirt pocket and was out in the pond fishing a snake Decided to come up to my leg needless to say ran out notice my phone was gone. About 2 hrs later I found it put in rice for a few weeks and I'm using the phone now. Seen it done on several smart phones. And it had always worked for us.

I call BS on this. He claims all the rice and other techniques are anecdoctal and have no scientific proof they work. Fair enough. Then he tells you how he does it ... but has no scientific proof to support it either. I wonder if he can spell hypocrit?

Use contact cleaner. Alcohol but it also helps to remove gunk. I soaked a phone in blood. I got contact cleaner and cleaned it up. One button did not work anymore. I know an engineer at HP. They use a vat of stuff like contact cleaner but just the liquid and dip things in it. Alcohol absorbs water like crazy. It also goes into the phone and finds the water. Yes rice and things work. Alcohol works better.
