This old boar hog makes a round through the lease every now and then. There haven't been any hogs on this place since back in the spring except for a couple of shoats about 3 weeks ago. He comes through I'm assuming in search of some hot sows and always drops by my oil rub for a photo op. Wish I could know when he's coming, I'd have a surprise for him!!

If the hogs ever move back onto this property and stay for awhile, I plan to make life hard on 'em......REAL hard. Right now it's just one every now and then,.....nothing regular at all. I'd love to bay this ole' boy up and give him a dose of copper and lead. I got after a big hog last year that could very well have been this one.....he left the country in short order, Belle and Abby ran him down off the mountain and finally turned it off at 1.8 miles and came on back. Glad they quit when they did, because they were waaaaay off the lease property.

Mike,.....if you see him down there, send him back,.....he doesn't need to be foolin' around with them city sows of yours, he'll develop all kinds of bad habits..... Grin

Ya know the old hog may not be as far away as you think.  A buddy and I have been after a big boar that walks a lease now and then...similar to what you said.  This weekend after searching the lease we found nothing again.  As were were leaving and old man walking down the road pointed to some woods across the street and siad the hogs are in there, I see them all the time.  My buddy and I looked at each other and said "right there"...the old man said yes, right there.  We turned his plott loose and she went 400 yards and bayed.  The big hog and a bunch others were staying not too far away from where we had been parking....we had been hunting the south side of the road, the hogs were laid up on the north side...just sayin, he may not be as far away as you think.

On the other hand, he may be staying 3 miles waya and just out walking.

You could very well be right hoghunter,.....and I wish you were.....but I really don't think that he's on the place other than to pass through now and then or when the sows all show up back on this property. I think if he were around that I'd see sign of him,.....either tracks or rooting or pics. I've had 2 cameras out since spring and only gotten maybe 4 pics of hogs. It seems that most any hog that comes on that place will make a trip to the oil rub I made, where I got the pic of this hog. They've used it so much now that it's like a place they can't pass up. This property is on a mountain and although it has water year round, it's a good bit hotter in summer than down in the valley. Plus there's a big beaver swamp down there and the river too. I got word that some land owners down in the valley were having a baiting war and were just keeping the hogs in that area due to so much feed they were putting out. Anyway,......they should be back when the acorns start falling, this place is covered in mature white oaks. Time will tell I guess......maybe before deer season open back up I'll get a chance to get on him. Boy I wish I could find him Ryan.....he's been lucky waaaaay too long...... Tongue

Well I reckon 2 landowners got mad at each other and decided that they would not let the other kill any hogs. Heard that one was encroaching on the others hog shooting over bait, so they decided to try and out-bait each other.  I've been thinking about the sow in heat scent, think I'll try that. And no I haven't caught all the hogs off that place, I wish that were the case...... lol there's just not a lot of hogs in north Alabama to begin with.
