Looks like a good time...it's always nice to get out and see how others do what you do, and kind of do a comparison. It may not change your style, but it can open your eyes to a few things or make you shake your head at em.

Pictures are worth a thousand words and these show what happens when dogs get out of posistion and cut and slash at cattle and put too much pressure on them. The same thing happens in hog hunting. Stock sense is invaluable and the ability to read stock is bred in them, not trained.

I am going to ask a question and I don't have ill intentions. Am I right in thinking that the dogs dogs should back off and bay and let the cattle settle when they are not scattering or running off? Also, shouldnt they only put enough pressure on the cows to get them bunch and then rate the cows and add or remove pressure as needed? I don't know much about it and I was not there in person but it looks like the dogs were chewing on the cows a good bit. There are only a few pictures in these that look like the dogs are where they are supposed to be. Anybody care to elaborate on the pics?

Looks to me that the grey heifer was bayed tight with the rest of them to begin with and then either broke on her own or broke from too much pressure. One way or another it looks like they sent the dogs after her and let them have a little chew bring her back. Any idea who is the owner/breeder on the yellow dogs with the 'H' freeze brand on them?

Some people really believe this is what a head dog is supposed to do and this is the very reason there are so many people opposed to having head dogs used on their cattle, and they are right it will run them through fences scatter them and get them chewed up. No old time real cowboy would ever turn 3 dogs on 5 head "in a park" intentionally unless they were really really broke.

I'm with bigo on this one. Dogs out of position and to much pressure. Matt aggie your pretty much on with your statement. The yellow dogs bayed tight and didn't back off. You can see the grey cow stayed back when they turned em loose. She did bunch but with the pressure she left. After Tue dogs worked her pretty hard she actually found a hole in between the trailers and got out of the "legal" pasture. No we didn't know anyone there that was working dogs.

Thats why we didnt stay long. Saw what we needed to see and cut a trail back to the house. Dont agree with the style these boys use nor did I care the dogs they were using. Not my idea of a true head dog or stock dog. To each his own I guess.
