i lost my catch dog last night, after a long time anybody that ever hunted with "BEAST" knew he was a catch dog and he truly loved his job, he never had to he just always wanted to, hed run flat out and hit a hig right on the ear i hardly ever had to flip a hog himself he wbsas about 90lbs, but i dont think i can get another bulldog and start over again if i were to get a catch dog not in the bully family or mastiff what would you guys suggest and what have you had luck with. i would appreciate it

several different reasons mainly just cause ive only had a few ive completley trusted it takes along time for me to get there with one and when you do find the one like that u end up losing them and it takes forever to find another one like that i had him from a pup and i just wouldnt trust an older one to be introduced into my pac without conflict so in general simply cause i dont have time to wait 16 mos and raise a catch dog, wich i do have a pup but thats what he is a pup, i need a dog thats not so hard to socialize at an older age not saying they all are jmo

That's makes sense. I don't really like introducing older dogs either. But i don't know if i would feel comfortable going in to leg a hog without some type of bully breed on its ear. I hope you find a breed that works for you

I have a stag that is a catching son of a gun but they are rather hard to find a good one too , get you a female bulldog an it is alot Easyer than all the testosterone filled males , because it will prolly take you 16 months to find a good none bull catch dog I got real lucky with my stag an have seen a few others that would work but they were priced accordingly

i got one hes 4 will catch anything 250 or under just wont hold constantly he re grips alot I just participated in a national police K-9 competition and they had one of the top K-9 trainers in the country their to jelp guys with dog problems. one of the things i watched was regripping or (corn cobbing as he called it). What he did with this guy's 4 year old german shepherd was when the dog released to regrip run the heck away and not allow the dog to chase. After three or four drills with this that dog stayed caught. He didnt even ove his head for fear his toy wold run off. That being said, try gettin your male to catch in a controlled environent and soon as he regrips pull the hog away and let it run off some, and not let him chase it. I havent tried this yet but i wtched it work on the GSD and i have one that regrips so i wanna give it a shot.

I hope you find a breed that works for you I was just talkin to my husband about this earlier today. I don't think I'd feel fully confident goin in to leg a big hog with a non-bulldog holdin him. While a non bulldog breed may be good at catchin and holding, it's a big concern to me if said dog got hit real good, and felt some good pain. I don't believe that a non bulldog type dog is gonna have the high pain tolerance that bulldog type breeds have. But that's just my .02 cents.

i know that the bully breed is about the best catch that there is, and like i said i have a pup thatll be ready in a year or a little longer but till then what am i to do, if anyone has a dog for sale that would fit the bill i am looking for no aggresion towards new or any dogs dont matter the size a caught hog is a caught hog and when he latches so will the other dogs, main thing is to honor every bay and go the distance, and absolutley no dog or human aggresion at all none zero, i mean none i want to be able to box this dog with the other dog and no worries i would pay for the right dog if anyone can help then please let me know. just message me. thanks everybody

i have legged several hogs with just my bmc on ear or two kemmers on ear , or all three on a hog they get alot rougher when they know im there if my bmc didnt regrip i would have no trouble cause when hes on hes on thats a caught hog, but i am going to try the police k9 training tip that was given that sounds like it would work and for logical reasons, common sense if you think about it, as far as the pain tolerance of a bull dog my bmc has taken more of a whopin than any of my bulldogs have ever taken and alot longer and he never quit, but it also wasnt a bloody mess a couple cuts just a good ol woppin, i think in about 6 years of hunting that bulldog i can think of 6 times he was really cut down, and once i had to carry him to the truck after he let go of the hog and i had it, so i appreciate everything again everybody but i still havent found the right dog ive looked at a few, so if you got something let me know
