Alright, i just purchased a sportdog houndhunter 3200, my dogs really arent trashy unless we dont get into ANYthing and then one may yap up an armadillo, and one will start catchin snakes.  The dillo/snake sounds are different from the I got a hog!! sounds, and they dont mess with the deer that we have come across, or the cows.  Just wondering if i need to shock em over this, or what? Ive heard dillos smell like hogs to dogs, and not to worry much about it.  Needin some more experienced advice on this please, i want my dogs as well behaved as possible! Thanks guys! Smiley

X2....I tend to agree with this.....you can do a great deal of damage in seconds that can take months or years to reverse if it ever does.

I'm in the same boat with one of my jagds which are notorious for being trashy.  It generally only happens to me when I don't put them down in fresh sign or hot track. A lot of people disagree but to me as long as they don't just flat try to run a deer or dig to an armadillo or worse yet quit a hog for something else then a little scolding works best. When I would hollar they used to come back and get scolded then I'd redraft them. As they got older they'd just move on and it happens less and less.

drive around and find some deer in a field close and drop him and if he catches scent and  goes to chasin them give him a beep and see if he turns, if not give him a shock. ive taken a dead deer and put it in the yard and when they go to smell it i let them get close then give them a bump and they would get the picture

If it was just dillos and snakes whrn they're bored, i would redirect their attention. At least they are huntin' it up. They can't pick the hunting spot, they just get to show you whats there.

most off the time I break them off deer in my back yard...deer scent and a little shock therapy...but only after they know that I want hog...

just make sure the pup has been hunting a while...like a few weeks or month or so before you shock them in the woods...you don't want the pup to associate hunting as a bad thing when it is deer you want the pup to quit...
