My buddy has a red nose pit that will go out and find a hog and catch it.  A few months ago we were driving by a pond when 2 hogs ran out of the pond and into the brush.  He jumped out and said "check this out"  Dropped Dozer his pit, Dozer put his nose on the ground and took the track.  A few minutes he started yipping as he was chasing the hog.  You could hear the hog grunting towards us then bam...caught.  He walk hunts this pit in the Houston area and he has caught a bunch of hogs.  Anybody have pits that hunt this way?

I have an american bulldog that will put his nose to the ground and hunt, has found a few pigs, in fact last year was the best find dog i had... Shocked I had to stop hunting him like that though, he started ranging out further and further, to when I let him go he would usually go out damn near 1,000 yards, way to dangerous for a straight catch dog to be doing that.  Now when we walk into fresh sign he has his nose to the ground and trying to pull my arm off... Grin

Daniel my hunting buddy has 2 american bulldogs that hunt and find pigs, they stay a lot closer to us, its really fun when you  come up on a group that curs have found and then bulldogs are also finding em, it can turn into some work pretty quickly. RIP his male has found some huge boars too.

Micheal has a small male pit that has a good nose too, he has found some for us. He ranges out to far also though.

I like using bulldogs on smaller places with no livestock for little quick hunts, if they'll stay close to you.

Tell your buddy keep a tracking collar on him.

Thats interesting, I've got a red nose and she always starts winding right before the dogs bay, she uses her nose but I've never tried to use her as an rcd, just might be the ticket for those palms, she's short and can get through them surprizingly(?) fast..

Our only worry is that they dont have the lung capacity to hunt for along time down here in the south texas and they heat up quick.  We normally run him as a catch dog vested up...
