Went this morning to find a pen some cattle on a clean out job i took on.  Took Smoke (Cowboy x Sue), Duke  (Cowboy x blue eyed girl), and Okie ( Cowboy x Shives gyp).  All dogs are right at 2 or under.  Duke was started on cattle but for the last 6 months has been on hogs, and Okie is 15 months, been on hogs.  This was Okies 3rd time to ever see or work cattle.  This job has been a pain in the butt, with rank cattle that no one else could pen, and deer hunters leaving gates open and letting cattle back into this ranch.  Pens are horrible, wing is a locust thorn thicket, and the trap is about 50 acres.  Only fence on the 4500 acre locust and mesquite thorn thicket ranch.  Turned out at 8:30 and rode till 10:30 when the Okie and Duke went 900 yrds on the garmin.  I heard them strike and the cattle strung out.  At 1.3 miles they bayed solid.  Rode to em and found 3 cows bayed.  Let em get used to me and started pushing.  Well they ran threw every thicket you could find.  I think half the time i was having to get off and lead my horse threw alot of it.  Shocked  The dogs stayed hooked.  Finally got em in the open and got em headed towards the pen.  Got em in the trap and up in the wing.  Those cattle did not wanna be there.  Every chance they got the would try to run threw the sorry fence but amazingly it held em in.  2 of em finally got threw it.  So i called the ranch manager and told him to bring my truck to me.  When he got there I went ahead and darted her so i wouldn't loose her.  Got her in the pen.  3 hours from the time we struck till she was in the pen.  The garmin said that from where they bayed till i got em in the pens we covered 16.9 miles.  Never had a chance to take em to water and no dog quit.  Couldn't be more prouder of them dogs.  Some good bred dogs and a little help from above we got something done.  Sorry no pics I have a stupid phone.
