Is the July hound as good or better than your other two dogs?
What flaw are you wanting to correct in either of your males?
What do you feel right now would be gained by breeding either of these dogs to the hound?
Not telling you what to do, just asking the basic breeding questions

It all depends on wether you like a dog that is open on track. Most of them if not all of them will be open.

Give it a try!
I have two BMC/ bluetic brothers that do ok. One is gritty as heck, the other not so much. And the only time they've been open on a track is when they trashed on deer early on, never on a hog

Your the one who asked the question so I assume you have'nt hunted with a July cross or you would'nt be asking. I've hunted with 3 different July X curr crosses and each one was wide open on track. They had plenty of drive and bottom and found lots of hogs but barked with every step they took. If you dont mind one being open then their very good. I find it amazing how many people ask questions looking for answers and when you give them opinions based on true life experiences are unable to accept the answers. I know where there is a very good young July X Curr cross for sale rigt now if your interested but he is for sale because he is OPEN.

Lance, I've hunted with a bunch the last few years and they're all silent. These were all Trigg/July crosses... full hound and cur crosses. I guess it all depends on the line of dogs they're out of. I like them so much that my yard has three red dogs on it now... and I just bred my best cur to one. I say give it a whirl yelladog... cull hard if not satisfied.

Mike, I really like the ones that I've hunted with other than being open mouthed. They have tons of hunt, bottom, and will put their mouth on a runner. My buddy has one right now that I really like and he is silent until a hog breaks but when it breaks that dog will bark with every step he takes, the other two were wide open as soon as they hit a track. That's the only thing I would change about the dog. I'm sure there are some that are'nt open on track and I would love to have one and I can only base my opinion on the 3 that I've hunted with. Yelldog 0300, I think the July is a heck of a cross and you will like them and I'm sure there are some that are'nt open but the ones that I've seen were. I did'nt mean for my reply to sound harsh or condescending and I was just trying to answer your question. Next time I'll add a smiley face to my comment to let you know that I'm just joking with you.

Lance, these will sing one a song when it breaks. But, they'll shut up when the hogs pulls ahead of them.
All my cur dogs are the same way.

Not trying to be rude or anything but before I would breed them I would hunt them up against some other dogs an make sure they are hog dogs take them to diffent terrain. Different areas an if they still produce pork in dry ground , swampy ground an all the rest then they hog dogs an breed them , I would go with the hound just because hound usally hunt harder an have better nose I don't mind open dogs, just make sure the dogs you wanting to breed are worth breeding we have enough dogs getting bred that quality hog dogs no need to add to it , I'm not saying your dogs are no good just saying be sure that you think it through more than you just like the dog an wanna breed it I have 2 dogs I like an hunt them but I would not breed them because I do not think they are top quality , they find hogs an I have caught alot with them they just are not up to my breeding standard
