I don't have near the range I should have with my 220 anymore. I run both 30 and 40 collars with long range antennas and can only get close to one mile with one of the whip style antennas
that's around 4 foot. As far as I know I have the newest updates as well any ideas

Are you changing atennas quite often (short to long range) on your hand held?

Yea change antennas a lot but jam nut where you connect antenna tight

hogtied- I've heard this same comment many times from people that change antennas a lot. One of them figured out that the problem was the small wire (not really sure what it is actually called) that comes out of the hand held that goes into the antenna gets bent, worn, or broke-thus causing poor range. You many look at your the next time you cahnage antennas and see what it looks like. From the research and comments I've heard, the handheld has to go back to Garmin for repair.

Couple of things to try...
First, I would connect a collar to a buddies handheld and both of you take a trip around the country. Watch the screens and if there is a difference this will tell you whether or not the problem lies with your handheld or the collars.
A typical problem with the collars themselves is with antennas. Make sure (especially with the factory antennas) that there isn't a break in the length somewhere.
If you're using replacement antennas on all your collars, connect your handheld to a buddies collar that has the factory antenna and see what kind of range your getting.
If you think the problem is with your handheld, you can reset the satellite data without erasing all your dog collar info by powering off the unit, then hold down the "out" button while powering the unit back on. Wait for unit to reaquire satellites and try again.
If all else fails, you can master reset the handheld. Note that this will delete all tracks, waypoints, collar data, etc and return the unit to factory defaults. Power the unit off. Next, hold down "map" and "enter" while pressing the power button. Unit will ask "Do you want to erase all user data" to which you will answer yes. Press enter and allow to fully boot up.
If these suggestions don't work, it's probably time for a visit to Garmin.

I believe the problem is broken wire that goes from antenna hook up to board on the hand held can't figure out where it hooks to on the board
