Circle C,

Im agreeing also! You got the best dogs! lol. That should take some pressure off of a few I know that are hell bent on proving it!

This thread has been of great interest for me and the information/insight I am looking for in regards to breeding.
I sure haven't been disappointed in it thats for sure! Like TexasHogDogs said (I think it was him), after 23 years of crossing and raising hog dogs I still ain't bread sh*t! I've been lucky a few times but my percentages are way way low compared to people that line breed.

A breeders cup field trial or what ever you want to call it sounds great to me because I would be  expecting everything you experienced in the group hunt you were invited to earlier this year. I've talked to several breeders of their own stock on this board and never once did I see an ego surface with them. Just good folks that really want to help guys like me is all.
I didnt even consider egos at a breeders field trial rearing their ugly heads until you mentioned it.
I wouldn't figure it being much different than the baying competitions I have been too lately but you never know I guess with human nature in the mix.
I would like to see one anyway.
If the fist start to fly then I will just go to the house. Same as I used to do at T ball games! lol

on  breeding  pups  ......  good  line  bred pups  off   a  good  line  of  dogs  known  for  there  hunt  will  produce  atleast an  80 %  turnout  ratio  or  better ....most  of   my  litters  or 90%  proven  fact .....ask  around ... research  it if  you  don't  believe  it   .....one  other  thing  the  best  you can  hope  for  is  to recreate the  best  dog  in the  line  you are  breeding ......

80 % ?? how many pups do you produce a year? 80 % is a dang good percentage.

Yall don't get my dogs confused with Circle C's dogs  Evil

I've said it once and I'll say it again - I have the best Skunk dog in the world. I can't help but brag. There's nothing like pulling through the Jack in The Box drive through reeking like skunk and having your truck smell lovely for a week. You can tell when my garmin collars are being charged because the whole office smells great. I know, you are all jealous.

Cheers

I'M willing to go to any of them .  Just set it up.

I think it was Mr Parker that said 80% of his liters turn out well that was about what I was thinking some were between 80 and 90 percent is a good ratio when you got a good line of dogs. If I did not get 50% I would not think it was a good high percentage liter atleast 50 %  and that would be a avarge liter. I agree with Mr Parker.    Three out of Nine I would not consider a good liter and dont take it the wrong way please just going by what I know.

A good breeder is differant from a good hunter, although they can be the same person. A good breeder has got to be committed, real committed to his dogs and the line. 50 % litters are not acceptable, if I get that in a cross, the pairing will never be made again. 80-90 % for a good line is what I expect also.

Well, everytime you mate the same pair of dogs, you will not have the same exact %.  We are dealing with chromosomes and they will line up different most every time.  It is no different than a man and woman having 3 kids.  Those kids will be different.  They may be a good bit a like, or nothing at all a like.  Line breeding is all about narrowing the amount of the wanted genetic material.  However, just because one breeding works or doesn't work, doesn't mean it will be the same the next time.
