I have been a big promoter of Sportsmix dog food for the last several years. BUT I have had freshness issues three times in the last 18 months.
Bags in question have expiration date of 16/06/14/C2.
Anyone else have problems? And if so, what is the expiration date on the bags?
I have a call in to Sportsmix and am fix'in to rattle their cage (again).
I feed 6 tons a year and for the price I am paying I expect the quality to top notch EVERY time I open a bag.
Please post up with the amount you are feeding a year, where you live, and if you have had any problems with freshness in your area.
Thanks, Paul T

paul i was feeding and selling sportmix 24/20 a few years back , around 2006 to 2008 went thru many a ton and finally quit them over their product . seemed like every time i went and bought a couple pallets of feed it was differant no consistency to it at all . it was like switching feed every month . i complained to the rep and i guess i was the only one that cared enough to even notice the problem with the feed . but i had had complaints from other folks that i sold to as well . i just quit them flat . i heard they fixed the problem but i never went back . i now feed the caliber 24/20 now and i am happy with it , dogs do well on it and no problems so far . before that i was on lonestar starpro 24/20 and it is good feed as well . but sportmix does have their problems that i noticed in the past and i don't give feed manufacters a second chance when it comes to my lifes work .

Tried it back in 2012 purchased it out of Decatur, Tx.
Fed 7 bags/month and quit it due to inconsistency and high prices.
Don't know if it would qualify as a freshness issue or not.

Feed the black bag for a year. Very inconsistent plus got way to high. caliber doesn't come within 250 mi of me. Talked with the rep a couple times and they wouldn't pay me the time of day. Feeding retriever blue bag they eat it alright and are doing alright. Wish we had better

I personally like the blue bag retriever. Works good for me. Dogs eat it and look pretty good

I had two bags last summer of black sportsmix that smelled really different when I opened the bag. Some dogs wouldn't touch it and the ones that did threw it up. I took it back to the feed store and they replaced the bags. It's the only issue I have had, its still the best I have found around me and I pay $28/50#

Food is "dry" not the normal "oily" look. Smell is off. Some dogs will not eat it.

Silverton, I'm in north east tx. I feed the black bag. I had been buying it from the same feed store for several years then like you say it starting losing its color and wasn't as oily. So I started buying from a different feed store that sells a lot more volume and have had good results ever since.

Ive noticed the same thing. Ive been feeding it a couple years now. I feed about 250# a week. The first year I fed it my dogs did great on it, lots of energy and stamina. I hunted the same dogs every day HARD running, dogs held up great. Then I started noticing the inconsistency stated above. This year i noticed a big difference in my digs performance. They just didn't have enough energy and more than once were just coming up short, and wasn't holding their weight like before, not even close. ive had this same problems with other feeds also. I just wish SOMEBODY would make a good feed and keep it consistent. Currently looking for something new to feed. My buddies are feeding plantation and like it pretty good, but heard of a new feed that a vet come out with thats supposed to be meat based, that im going to check out.

Colby, we all fed Victor for about two years... then it went to crap. It was an awesome feed when it came out. Then the price went through the roof and quality went down. I fed Sportmix 24/20 for many years before that and went back to it about a year ago... around 10 bags a month. I did notice several bags a few months ago that were real dry looking, but the dogs ate it just fine... haven't noticed any since.

I agree with ya it is definitely higher and is less food than sportmix.. The place I go to has alot of traffic and I haven't seen issues in either brand. "I ve tried sportmix past two months" because cheaper and more food. Dogs haven't changed much that I can see.

I have fed sportsmix for a long time now really liked it. Always able to put weight on dogs, lots of energy, and all dogs liked it. I don't think I have seen Tue freshness problem but the price?. Within 2 months the price went from $26.75 to $34.50 and keeps rising. My feed store quit carrying it because no one would buy it at that price. I talked them into carrying victor and have been feeding it for about a month really like it. Just wish they were 50# bags.
