Been awhile since i last posted here but i got a question for the horse people here. I just got a pretty nice QH Gelding today as a matter of fact, and have a question. I need to get his feet taken care of and he hasnt had shoes in a long time so i want to keep him barefoot. Been doing alot of research on the subject and like the idea of the mustang roll trim, anyone here us this method. I actually kinda was just in the right place at the right time to pick this fella up. A man i work with saw some people chasing him down the street in a car and he was just being nice and caught the horse for them, well when he caught him up the people in the car just took off. H kept the horse in his pasture for a few days contacted the sherrif and reported the horse. well a coupla days later nothing ever came of it and he didnt want it so he wanted to turn it out but he wouldnt go anywhere. Then the lady who liveds behind him came over and told him that she turned the horse out. Turns out another guy who moved into town asked her if he could leave it at here place until he could find better arrangments, well a year went by and he never showed back up and she got tired of feeding him so out he went. I went and picked the horse up and brought it back to my place and plan on getting in contact with the guy to see what the deal is here. Also lucked out and he has been tattoed inside his upper lip, couldnt make it out tonight but will try tommorow and see if i get any luck finding anything out about him.. Hopefully he wasnt a stolen horse or anything but if so then someone will be happy to get him back. Hes a big ol sorrel QH and i am guessing he is a little over 16hh and is pretty awesome looking. Anyways back to the original question are your horses shod or natural.

if your gonna use him alot espesially on rough ground or on the road he ll have to be shod , other than that there is no need just trim him every once in a while when needed.

If you be ridin' on rocks, shod... if not... a regular rasp is all you need.... be careful of extreme trimming trends. The hoof will tell you how to trim.

WHEN U CAN MAKE OUT THE TATOO GET ONLINE GO 2 AQHA.COM AND TYPE IN HIS NUMBER AND RESEARCH HIM. AND I ONLY SHOE THE HORSES I RODEO OFF OF. BUT I LIKE MY HORSES BEING NAUTRAL SO EVERY BODY ELSE I LEAVE BAREFOOT. BUT IT REALLY JUST DEPENDS ON WHAT UR PLANS FOR HIM ARE? AND IF HIS FEET ARE IN GOOD CONDITION?

pretty sure bet that if he's tattooed, he ran on the track. As for shoeing, try him lightly without shoes and if he stays sound, try a little more, just be real careful, cause most of your track horses will have pretty thin walled hooves, and they tend to split really easy. If you have to have him shod, get someone that knows what they are doing.
