Thanks every one for the comments they have helped!Rdjustham, yeah I know it's tough to find a real Florida cur but I live in the heart of Florida and know a bunch cowboys that "supposedly" have jam up ones, thinking about getting a puppy out of them. Dads Partin he says and mom is some other type of Florida cur.
Does any one know much about the Partin bloodline?

I have owned true Partin dogs & hunted with plenty of others. They are just like any other. Some are jam up and do everything you would expect completely silent on track . Others are open on track and not worth the bullet it  would take to kill em.  Basically it's a name that for some reason sells in the hog dog world. Why I don't know. Probably because of the peddlers out there. I have owned dogs from Platts , Kemphers , Mormans, Deseret, Partins. I have had jam up dogs out of all of them in the past 25 years. I'm sticking to some dogs we been breeding for some time now.  Mears Blackmouth, Florida cur, and a pinch of rednose.

Open on track, really? I'm no master of the dog universe, but open on track would seem to contradict every aspect of that type of dog.

Yall's style of hunting is different.  Im gonna ask this though, if you didn't mind open dogs, would those open Partin dogs still be junk? I find it hard to believe that just because a dog is open out of a line, that it's junk. If it's personal preference that's one thing, but you still have to appreciate a dogs ability for finding hogs and baying them open or not.

Whatever works for you is what you run. I like silent and violent. Open mouth Florida dogs has never even been a thought. It's hard enough just to get those jokers to bay. Had to been a goodun for them step back and bay. I've seen a lot of them work but even the culls weren't open mouth.

It's all preference. I had dogs that were real good. Find a hog in a heart beat. Didn't keep em because they opened behind
One. That's one thing I can't stand. If I was coon or deer hunting that would be a different story   Wink

where I'm from, a cur dog  better only be barking if it is "lookin" at either cattle or hogs. Anything open is a cull Wink

I also like a silent stand off cur.  But have learned very quickly that it is more of a terrain and preference issue.
In these thickets where hogs have been ran and dogged for over a hundred years .....that would be one silent cur dog. Haha.

He better catch it immediately or run the air out of him.....cause no doubt its gonna run.

Dogs are going to get beat, that's fine with me, but when mine are barking, I'll know they are on the "front end" of stock Wink
