I got a pup about 7 mo and it had struck hogs before I got it. The first thing I did was see if it could find a hog and I was real happy. But should that be called a strike dog? I would say no it is just a pup.

true...but that pup might have the potential to be a great dog one day in the near future...
Oh yeah that is my main dog right now. Hunts just the way I like most of the time.

but then again,  I have taken my 6 month old puppys out for a run behind the farm and walla they struck a hog  lol .  You just never know .  One of the best gyps I had was a hog dog at nine months,  but I sold her to my huntin partner at a little over a year old cause i'm old and she had a soft mouth that I could barely hear at 100 yards . and I agree with some other folks about if you don't like something in the dog trade just move on because you just don't know FOR SURE  that the dog cain't do it  . some folks like me  [ until recent ] start getting dogs in the woods at 3 and 4 months old and some of these young dogs will fool you as to what they can do . and about baying that young go to a few baying comps and watch the puppy bays them little young dogs aren't just barking at a hog they are working it  lol  but like the post says to all that care to look it's  BUYER BEWARE and it's been that way since before I was born , hell Daniel Boone probably got took on a dog deal when he was young   lol   but enough about that I thought this post was dead when I left earlier .

this is exactly why I would rather buy a pup and not a second rate dog in the dog trade that is a cull in my book...

I would rather buy a trashy 6 month old pup because that pup is a diamond in the rough...has the potential to be a great hunting dog...

and breeding these type begets more early starters that have a bigger chance of making great dogs...the cream rises to the top...

What's gets me is how people exspect pups to be able to hang with the big dogs. Or exspect pups to be doen at all before a year old... I like an early starting pup don't get me wrong, but there is a line. What gets me about the dog trade game is getting pups and dogs for free get it to bark at a hog or caged coon and bam you have a started dog that is worth $200... there is more started dogs that has never set foot in the woods or even bred out of hunting stock that gets sold. To me that is where all the bad deals start. I would rather buy a $300 pup out of good hunting stock then to buy a pup for $50 that should make a hunting dog with lots of work. A pup or dog out of hunting stock that was bred for its purpose is more likely to out shine some randon bs cross that somebody threw togeather. And I do have a single person in mind that always has dogs and puppies for sale on the trade craigslist and facebook. A dog peddler is gonna do what ever it takes to sale dogs and pups. Its been said read up on a person and see how many times there on the dog trade versus other topics. It isn't hard to see a peddler for what he or she is.
