Reading the Ellie post had me thinking. I would like to see and hear about your number one dog that you hold near and dear to your heart. By number one the dog does not have to be your best hunting dog, just the one that makes you smile the most.

About two years ago a friend and I where doing a hog removal contract on a high fence ranch with my dog Capstick. He had been hunting with dogs for a few years but had never owned a real good one yet. The first day we hunted the contracted property we caught 42 hogs (All time self record. The hired skinners where not happy with us to say the least.) from 50lbs to 397lbs. Most of those where caught by Capstick and the rest where caught by Belle my other Ridgeback at the time. My hunting partner on the way home says " thats the best dog I have ever seen" and my reply was, he is my favorite but no where close to the best I have owned. He was floor boarded by my comment. Best and favorite are two different things all together. Capstick has been a good dog for me and is my favorite, but the things he has done could easlly be done by other good dogs. My best dog was a Bullydane I got out of the Austin paper named Tank. He stood 30'' tall and was 115lbs. I raised him from a pup, and this dog was as close to perfect as I have ever seen. Endless bottom, 100% silent in the box or truck, and just had a sixth sense for out smarting big boars. He lacked the one thing that makes people get attached to dogs, personality. Around the house he was just there. He didn't care for people and would make no atempt to please at all. Capstick on the other hand is 100% one owner dog. Thats why he has always been my favorite.

P.S. that 397lbs hog is why I am now a WWT scorer and all my hunting partners are too. Called Cody when I caught him and there where no scorers in my area. Live and learn I guess.

This is my strike dog and my favorite.  He is 1/2 plott - 1/2 cur.  He is good natured, has lots of drive & heart, and has found lots of hogs for me.  After we catch a hog, he will stand over them for a minute all proud-like.  then he rolls out again.  He is out of my old blood line and i raised him from a pup.he even smiles for pictures.

my wife's favorite dog is a blue lacy.  She is a really neat dog.  She has a great personality, is well mannered, and real protective of my wife.  She is not quite a #1, but does find some hogs.  We went a couple of days ago and she found a 180lb. boar before my top dog. My wife wouldn't trade or sell her for any amount of money.  She is my wife's pride and joy.

My favorite and best friend was my dog Klide (Catahoula). From the day he was born to the day he died he would be by my side anywhere I went. He was really special to me, because he was deaf. He passed away from something he had eaten. Even though he was deaf he would get after a hog. I never hunted him in the woods, but he would bay and catch in a pen. He is still missed alot around our house.  RIP Klide

she was sposed to be lacy/cur.  the mom was the bluest lacy dog you would ever see.  Not real sure on the top side.  Know he was shot a couple of days before my parenst picked her up because the hunter thaught he was a yote.  She had something that I have never had.  If I wanted to kill a coon she would find a coon if it was hog she was turning on to hogs she was just that one.  I could go on and on but will leave it at this still get pissy about the whole deal.  Lost two dogs and then one that did live is stunted bad.
