New to this area ( beeville / Tuleta ) went hunting with a guy quite a few times on his place. We went the other night turned my two strike dogs loose, and struck bout 250 yards out. Let out my patch dog basically a RCD, and my buddy's leopard pup good looking son of a gun! They went about 40 yards tward the bay when we heard the pup start whining like some pups do when they get lost... but he hasnt ever done that before. Whining got louder lasted about 20 seconds then stopped. We walked to where he was and he was laying there dead as a door nail! we were shocked to say the least, after searching his body we found two snake bites one in the shoulder and one in the rear flank. Them dam- rattles snakes will just ruin a good prospect down here huh? Anyone had a problem like this or ever heard of a dog dying that fast from a snake?

I seen it happen before. Eastern diamond nailed one of our cow dogs. He didn't make it 50 yards and fell over dead. I guess if they get hit in the right spot there is no hope

Lost a good young dog at the bay pen . He was baying on the outside of the pen , he would stop every once in a while and look in a dillo hole wright by the fence. I left to take other dogs back to the house. When i went back to the pen he was laying down .I thought he was just hot , took him home to water . He drank good and looked good a while later . About four hours later i checked on him and he was dead. His toung was swolen real big ,had to be a rattle snake in that hole!!!
