I am currently feeding the black bag of sportsmix, at first i noticed they gained a little weight. However now i cant really keep the weight on them. I have noticed that one of my dogs stinks all the time ( I am guessing from the food) and he also started shedding a lot more than he used too.
The other dogs do not stink however they shed alot and they never really did that before. Should I switch the victor select high energy?
Has anyone compared to two on their dogs?Huh?

I am not bashing sportsmix I am just saying how my dogs are acting on it, I like their food but I think i need to get them some thing a little better ?

To me sportsmix is the best feed you can buy but cost a lot. I switched back to victor when sportsmix got up to 33 bucks a sack and i haven't noticed any difference. The only time i notice the dogs stinking is when they roll in something dead.

Our dogs were getting pretty skinny...our BMC could not keep weight on and we were feeding her twice the amount she was supposed to have. We had wormed a few of times over a period of a year and it didn't help. We tried the Victor Select Hi Energy and noticed a difference within the first month. She just started looking better...not much fatter at first but like she felt better. More spark in her eyes. We tried a different wormer, Valbazen and all our dogs started putting on weight fast.
We had them at the Vet. who had wormed them and then used a couple of different horse and goat wormers and nothing had helped. We always do the Ivermectin for heart worms but the change in dog food and the Valbazen wormer did the trick. We have even had to cut back on the suggested amount of food that we feed the BMC...she was getting too fat. All our dogs started looking better on the Victor even before we wormed with the Valbazen. Our neighbor who raises  and trains Brittany Spaniels feeds Sportmix 24/20 and says that he thinks the Victor is much better but the cost for him is to much. He gets a great deal on the Sportmix when he buys 10 bags at a time. OK and before anyone jumps my butt about using Valbazen because of some of the side effects, just know that I did my research. The vet did not know why my dogs were not gaining weight and they were looking pretty bad. I took the chance and it worked. It also did wonders for one of my goats that we could not get to gain weight.

I like sportsmix but like PC said...too expensive so have to go with Diamond Hi Energy...sometimes the stools change colors with the diamond but they are doing pretty good on it...

Bowhunter...just remember that the colder it gets the more dog food a dog requires to maintain weight...but shedding this time of year does not make sense...I never had that problem with sportsmix when I fed it...used it for many years...

Any reason why dog would stink? His coat isn't as pretty as it used to be also..

I tried victor... Some dogs looked good some didn't..

Switched back to sportmix 26/18 and all were good and I was feeding less than I was with victor..

Sportmix is only 27-28 bucks here, so I'll keep using it...

I had a couple on victor and couple on sportmix couldn't really tell the difference both same price down here 28.99. I had a dog I acquired that was skinny skinny, sportmix ran threw him and started feeding 24-18 purple bag victor and it filled him out great so all my dogs are eatin that now and doing fine. I don't notice that I have to feed them much for the weight to stay on? And I be raised 3-4 pups on the victor puppy and then switched and they all look good IMO.  Someone else might think they look like crap though lol

Well it's been about 20 days since I started feeding victor high energy ( red bag) and I couldn't be happier! Dogs are getting bigger ( not fat but healthy skinny) and they are all looking better coat wise.
The pup that stunk no longer stinks!

I am feeding 2 cups per dog when before I fed 3 cups of sportsmix 24/20 and all the dog looked like crap. Very VERY HAPPY WITH VICTOR
