I got a cathoula thats about 15 months old right now and the problem im havin is he gives up on his own hog pretty easy. I've heard cats are late bloomers so do yahl think this is something he'll grow out of or is it time to cull him? Thanks in advance for any opinions

He was given to me by a freind of the family when he was 9 months old so i dont know any of his parents traits. He was not started when i got him i put him on about 8-10 so far he hunts 50-100 yards out without hot sign when he gets a hog stopped he trys to catch unless it whoops him then he backs up and gives it space but dont bay he just stares it down

Nothing wrong with that dog right now. Some of my best dogs did the exact same thing at that age. He just needs miles on him, hogs in front if him and age.

I had to young cats that did that so i started running an older help dog something that had good bottom but wasn't to rough and now they are jam up everytime i hunt them i have split bays and the bays are over 500 yard so just keep him in the woods and he should turn out good

I kind of disagree. If that was the case all my dogs would be as good as my lead dog. But they aren't.

Not 100% sure i agree with that either...... I owned a yellow lab bitch that was way more intelligent than my level of training..... That bitch made me look awesome, everything she did, she did with purpose. I was offered 5000$ for her at one point and refused.....im thoroughly convinced that she was my once in a lifetime dog, she was worth more to me than that back then and if I could buy her clone for 5k today I would be headin to the bank....... Alotta ramblin but the point is that i can honestly say she was better than i am capable of producing through training, period.

I think training can make a poor bred dog good and can make good bred dog great but it mostly depends on the dogs willing ness to Learn his job some will some wont
