Went hunting Sunday morning and had something happen I've never seen before. We were hunting just young pups, and had bayed and caught a really nice sow. When the pups struck we had turned two older dogs in to help. As we were walking out of the creek bottom, we watched as the older dogs rolled back out taking the pups across an open field and back into the woods. I watched on the Garmin as they looped out just shy of a mile. While they were still a long ways out, we start hearing a squaling noise at the edge of the woods where they had gone through. At first, one of my buddies thought it was a caught hog squealing, but the Garmin still showed the dogs out just over 900 yards so we were sure it wasn't them. After about 20 minutes, the dogs started coming back in, and along with them was a pack of three coyotes. They were running right along and amongst the dogs and the funny thing was the dogs didn't even act like they were there. We had this happen two different times Sunday morning, and on two opposite ends of the ranch. Even when the coyotes saw us, they continued to get closer and at one point were probably 15 - 20 yards away. I've come to a bay several times and had coyotes there, but they always hauled tail the minute they saw us. These were awfully bold! Here's a little video clip we were able to get. http://s229.photobucket.com/albums/ee138/bdavis1476/Hunts/?action=view¤t=Movie1.flv

I will have to admit that I was the one doing the shooting...and I'm not that great with a pistol at a distance. Had there been a rifle involved, we would have had reason to drink and celebrate!
Looking at the video slow, I DID get pretty darn close to the second one though!

Catch any hogs?
That's a silly question! Did I go hunting? All BS aside, caught one good sow. Let the pups do it alone after that. Had two more bays but hogs crossed the river and shucked the pups. Good hunt for the young dogs though. Here's a video of the one we DID catch. When you hunt a place where there is a creek or river that could come into play, more than likely it will. http://s229.photobucket.com/albums/ee138/bdavis1476/Hunts/?action=view¤t=Movie2.flv

Twice in the last month, we have had a BIG pack of coyotes attack our dogs at a bay. I have seen many of them show up at a bay individually, but this month was the first time a whole pack showed up, much less attacked the dogs.

Im starting to belive that the coyotes know what is going on now when they hear a bay as many years as people have hog hunted around them. They know that there is a good opertuninty for an easy meal.
