Today a buddy of mine gave me a blue tick hound that he got at the pound. This dog is a great looking hound. Me and my friend have only medium range bay dogs and no tracking systems. The bottoms where we hunt are absolutely covered up in pigs. My question is if I take this new hound out next week what are the chances he is gonna catch a trail and I wont ever see him again? I would hate to lose him but can't afford a tracking system.

There our two types of pain: The temporary pain of training or the permenant pain of failure. Choose wisely...

Anytime you unsnap the dogs... anything can happen. Not just with your hound, but any of your dogs.
With that being said, we hunted many years without tracking systems... good luck.
Might invite someone along that has a system to see how he does.

I agree with mike. I hunt my walker dog without a tracker sometimes and it can get a little nerve racking but he seems to find his way back to the truck when hes spent. Good luck with the bluetick jet.
