Are the dc50 collars any good? Are they worth buying or should I just get the dc40. I've heard bad things about them, but I've also heard good things. If you have used or still use them, are they any good?

they are worth the money way less single loss and further reception.  I hated my 40s did not trust them I hunted with the Garmin and a quick track collar when I upgraded to the 50s after the first month I sold all my quick track stuff.  I still have a couple 30s and they are almost as good as the 50s

I like the 50's. The USB connections let me charge them in the truck and I keep a 4 port USB AC wall adapter in my gear bag for when we have weekend long hunts or competitions when wall sockets get scarce for charging collars. I haven't had any issues with them, however, they won't work with the Astro 220.

i have 10 garmin collars and 2 of them are the 50s and their the only ones that have let me down so far, one time i lost communication on one of the 50s and it picked back up said collar was like 135 miles away and i finally got my dog back, the next time i was hunting one night and all of a sudden one of my 50s lost communication and never picked back up i thought my dog had fell in a hole because i could hear her barking but i had a quick track collar on her too and ended up getting her back later, i like the 50s but i have had more problems with them versuse the 30s and 40s i have. i wont turn my good dogs loose now without a telemetry collar on too, for the price of telemetry systems now if you have a great dog its not worth turning them loose without 2 collars on

Add my vote to the worth it list. I love mine and I know ppl with the dc 30's that like em but I know quite a few ppl that traded their 40's for 30's or upgraded to the 50's. I only had one problem with mine not acquiring satellite signal and other than that I've had zero problems with em. No lost signal or anything yet.

lol  I guess most folks have forgotten about how many problems the 40's had when they first came out  .   I haven't hunted mine yet but I have played with and tested them a bunch and I like them so far .
