I know what a barrel racer makes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! An ex-wife!!!!!!!! In alot of instances the difference between a 1D and a 4D horse is the person on top of it. Always had a problem with paying someone for losing, on the other side of the page. Its allowed many women and men to compete and win money that wouldn't have had the opportuntity to otherwise. It also created a market for horses that would have been culled. It amazes me how some barrel racers can consistly win a certain D.

Hey lance, You still married.lol There are more hard statements posted above & they are all true. haha
Yes sir, still married, but now we have an understanding. She doesn't say anything about how many dogs I have or how much I hunt and I don't say anything about how little here lately she has been riding those high dollar barrel horses I bought her.

I shat you not, I was at the CPRA finals one year, and there was a lady there rubbing a picture of a ladies barrel horse, and telling her all about its ailments!! The lady with the horse was all in to. Lock, stock, and barrel! Step dads shoed horses forever, and my Uncle is a vet. They have both been flown to Vegas and paid to stay, just in case something goes wrong with one of the three horses the lady brought.

Haha! Good read. I could think of about a million other things I could spend that type of handed out $ on, and it wouldn't be on rhinestones or a horse physic.

There can be up to 6Ds depends on the show, there is money in it ONLY if you hit the big stuff an fall in the right place. Yes I would agree it's a bottomless pit for money to fall upon, but it is a fun sport, very turley nice folks in it, but get ready for some for throwing! Trust me us barrel racers can throw a tantrum! Haha I love it and wouldn't have it any other way, if you buy a horse HAVE IT VET CHECKED! We have 8 head right now, and trust me their not cheap! $27 a bag for feed, $175 a week for ALFAFA hay, $60k trailer, another $50k or more on truck, paid $5k for my good horse I'm running on the WPRA circuit right now. But yes get SPONSERS every little thing helps. Prolly spend around $15k a year on vet and farrier. Not including engery fees, gas, time, but it's priceless when you win a show! And they pay great if you can hit te big stuff, lat year ran 5th/450 runners got a $1500 check. The Ds are usaully like this. Say the girl or guy who wins it runs a 15.000, that's 1d it them goes 1/2 second splits. 2d 15.500, 3 d 16.000 4d. 16.500 an every pattern is different. They also have 1/2 1/2 1 second splits at some races. Another thing to watch is those high strung horses. You can get your self hurt on them crazy jokers! Usual 1d local show cost horse is 10k the big pro winning horses are in the $25-$75k. And if you spend this much make sure you insure them! Never know what will happen to them things and you sure couldn't replace anything of that caliber easy! Good luck. Prepar to shell some cash and sweat out on the deal. If your wanting to just go have fun and do it as a thing you could find a good horse running 2d-5d times for $2k-$8k
