Just wondering what yall think about breeding a gyp back to back. I resently had to retire my best gyp after several bad injurys. I have 5 week old pups off her now and i was wanting to breed her again the next time she comes in. This is not to sell pups, i breed my dogs for me and my buddys and sell whats left. The gyp is 6yrs old and i want as many pups outa her as i can get to carry on her blood line. Does anyone have experience with breeding back to back? Pros, Cons? Thanks Chance

I never have, but I now people do. I always skip a cycle to give the gyp time to recover.

I don't see a problem if the dog is healthy and it is not nonstop.

Getting her some raw bones with bone marrow still in them and a fish or two per week will help her alot. thats the main nutrients the pups pull from. She will be fine, knock her up!

Make-em-squeal is right. we've done it before, she and the puppies were fine. That was five years ago, she's still around and we kept two dogs from each litter. Good luck.

I have never done it as my females usually have big litters and it takes so much out of them to raise 8-11 pups. I want their bodies to recover from the first litter so they can have everything they need to ensure the next litter is born healthy.
Of course, my last litter only had 4 pups, but the female was 5 years old and that was her first litter. Those pups are coming 7 months old, and the female has already been in heat once since she had the pups. So I may try to breed their mother on her second heat after the pups, late this winter. I like these pups, so I may try the same breeding again and hope for more than 4 pups!
It may not hurt to breed them back to back once, but I would be careful about over doing it.
