I mentioned on here a while back that my hunting friend was given a malinois pup…someone on ETHD asked me to give an update…he is a year old now give or take…he just recently got past looking like a pup…about 3 weeks ago we caught 4 and he was there caught when we arrived…nothing to brag about…my  buddy works on a big ranch and lives on it…so when he sees a big boar or a big fresh track he’ll go pick up a few dogs and cast them in the hog sign…

This past Monday…he cast the dogs and they bayed in a few minutes…he sent the Malinois Shepherd and within a few the fight was on…it took about two hundred yards before the Malinois Shepherd to finally get control of the boar…my buddy said he had that big toothy boar caught by the ear when he got there…

This morning he caught another boar of the same size…had him by the ear in the Brazos river…they were in the river close to the edge where the Malinois had his feet planted in the river water but was shallow enough to keep the hog anchored for a good while…he never let go until the boar was killed…this pup is showing to be ready smart about catching…he’ll have the ear and his body is up against the boar hog’s body like it should be…

This dog will take a fresh track if allowed…he comes from a working line of dogs and that is all I can say about this young dog other than he looks like he is physically a good representative of the breed…

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog...

Good to hear about Belgians able to catch. I know they are great for protection but catching ability is a bonus. Grin

I had the same experience with my mal, when allowed to hunt or broke bay situation he would not stay caught and die of a heat stroke but caught a bunch of hogs for me and never let go, and yes held clean as well. Ive got another one I need to start, I sold my last one to a pet owner after an injure ligament in his back leg
