We made a our last hunt before WOW heads home. Deputy Dawg and Cannon, along with our buddy Kohl all
Loaded up and we hit a spot of Kohl’s. We cast Kohl’s dogs first and they found a piggy sow and we caught her. We loaded them up after a little bit and moved. Then we cast Outlaw, Ava, Ranger, and Rooster (first hunt pup). They got gone and kohl went ahead and let his two out again. They went a little different direction but came to our dogs when they struck. The hog didn’t want to settle but eventually had to. On our way to them, we found Rooster and he was cut pretty bad. Deputy Dawg took him to the buggy. We went on in and when we got there they had a boar in the 175-180 range backed up in a draw that fed into a creek. We sent Apollo (my big white dog that is green) and Gunner (an RCD given to me and then I have to Kohl). They hit and the hog thought he was just going to explode  and shake the dogs off. He did except for Apollo. I watched him set his feet in the mud and literally jerk the hogs head back around. It was good watching. He settled down fast after the catch and I walked him all the way to the bay without a lead. He’s gonna be fun I do believe. Kohls Ken male (littermate to Ava) took a shot to the front shoulder. The dogs left and ended up baying another boar about 130ish and caught him. They left again and got split bayed. Ava was one way and Outlaw and Ranger were another. We got to Ava and missed the hog with Gunner. Then it was back and forth from one spot to another and we eventually picked her up. By the time we got over to the brothers, their hog broke, we may have broke it driving up close and the wind blowing right to them. We had to tone them back because they were fixing to cross a county road. We didn’t get those last two but I was still proud of the work they put in. Didn’t get many pics, just the one boar and some of my hunting buddy.

Williamsld, I agree but I also believe it isn’t just the dogo. Seems like so many duds in every breed now. Too many breeders  breeding for everything except practical body types and working ability. Too many people just breeding dogs with no goal, no rhyme or reason to their methods, and too many breeding dogs that really aren’t worthy of it. They do it because they themselves don’t know what good is because they haven’t seen what a truly good one is or their pride and sentimental attachment won’t allow them to be honest about a dog. The quality of catch dogs as a whole has really gone down in the last several years in my opinion. I’m real excited about Apollo. I hope he continues to improve.

Cajun he had a tail wind coming down here but he isn’t going to be as lucky going back. At least he’ll have some hunts to reminisce about. I think he counted 29 head we caught while he was here. Could’ve been better but not bad.

To me man,, that is the truth in a nut shell...  I dont know why a feller cant say the truth of a dog especially when its his dog ,,  dont live in a make believe world and be so blind as to not see the weakness in your dog yard..  And then hope that the weakness dont show up in future generations..   If a dog wont produce ,, dont make excuses for it,,, realize it and move on..

That’s exactly right. Great pets aren’t always good performance animals.

Tell us about the Dogo, where he is from, how he is bred etc. Those of us that use them need to know where the good ones are.

Clue, Thomas will chime in and give you the skinny but I will give you my 2 cents. He is showing great strides in understanding his job and getting better every hunt. He is really put together and is as fast as any catch dog I have seen. He has gotten the ear when one is available and has not been regripping. On the other hand he is funky around men  not named t-dog. I was there 3 weeks and he didn't warm to me. He reluctantly let me handle him hunting and while patching up a poke but he also never tried to bite. If you were to take a poke at ol T I think you would have 80# of whoop ass on you. He has become ultra protective of T and his son. When in the house alone with him he would grumble and be uncomfortable but would take a treat from me. It's the first Dogo I have really been around. He is very intelligent but it is a challenge with his mistrust of men.

Old Man, go to the Walmart store. That’s where I was told he came from. Some people had him and their land lord told them to get rid of the dog or get gone themselves. I asked if they knew anything about his pedigree and they just said that a woman was set up in the Walmart parking lot trying to get rid of the litter and she told them that he was a Dogo. I have no doubts about his being full. Any other breed would’ve altered him in some form or fashion, at least to some degree. He absolutely looks the part. I’m really hoping he makes it. He is very intelligent and really retains things. My youngest boy taught him to shake in just two or three attempts and he still does it today. He just doesn’t forget, once he gets it he has it down. I don’t care for his quirky ways towards grown men but that’s the only knock I have on him.

That seems odd to me, I have had 3 and now a pup I raised here and they all have been ultra friendly and loving to all people. From my limited experience with them I figured you'd have to work at making them show any man aggression. But then again there's different strains and different traits in all breeds.
I know the folks in Argentina claim they are excellent home and family protectors, so maybe mine just didn't get that trait. But I would never have a stranger pester one in an aggresive fashion as an effort to prevent that.
If you're standing or sitting around mine and a stranger shows one any attention they will come and root under their hand wanting to be petted.

There’s a man named chase wood in Huntsville Tx (dogos of Woodstock) I’ve got 3 off his yard in the last 10 years and all 3 of them were sure enough catchdogs no regripping or issues behavior wise
