Thanks t dog, I agree everyone seems to have a style that suits them. Hunting the rough dogs was how I learnt back in my younger days, so I guess I’m used to it. I just know when they get one stopped, I have a greater sense of urgency to get there to back them up. Good bay dogs get one stopped, you can leisurely stroll to the bay while sipping sweet tea and watching butterflies. And that sounds pretty good to me, as old as I am I should be doing it that way.

Hollowpoint, that leisurely stroll isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be either. I have a little net for catching those butterflies and guarantee you that sucker is going to get hung up on every briar it possibly can.

Make-‘em-squeel your dogs have those brains working for them. Pretty hard to trump brains.

Those jagds will cause a riot wherever they go if they’re hot, I run those Aussie style running vests on mine, and so far to this point I haven’t had any big cuts. It’s always in the back of my mind though.

Hollowpoint there use to be a guy across the river here that hunted blue Lacey find dogs and Airedale catch dogs. He claimed he didn’t run a vest on the Airedales and that the only one he ever got cut was one that he shaved on summer. He thought he was helping the dog stay cooler by getting rid of all that hair but instead made it susceptible to getting cut. He claimed that dog was the first and last one he ever had cut. He thought it was because of the hair. What’s your thoughts on it? I have zero experience with those type of dogs.

Those rough coats do protect the dogs, just how much, I can’t say. Some of those tusks are sharp and can do some damage. Just reading that testimony, I’d be inclined to believe it. When I first got exposed to hog hunting in Hawaii about 30 years ago, the guy I apprenticed under had a percentage of Airedale in most of his dogs. They didn’t get cut when I was with him, that was before anyone there was using telemetry or cut gear of any kind. Those dogs ran naked as the day they were born.
