Made another round with the pups last night "the same two that soaked up so much electricity last trip" the other two had been on a good hog race and caught a shoat afterwards so instead of alternating them I took the same two again.
Adam had his older dog that is pretty trashy, won't run off game far but is not good for trashy pups so I led them until my older dogs struck and cut them to them. They were trailing a mediocre track, then jumped and ran hard 5 or 6 hundred when my older dog pulled up bayed, Adam's dogs and my pups never checked but ran about a 200 yd diameter circle and pulled in to the bayed dog, " was more than one hog and their hog came back into the briar patch where Rough was bayed" had a roaring bay, when we got over to them the hogs weren't really rallied but we could hear them grunting some moving around in the briars, Adam sent his bulldog and they all fell off the bank into a big slough. There was 2 young fellows new to hog hunting with us that had on hip waders and I told them to fall off in there and catch the hog, they complied and the two of them with us helping them were able to get it back up the bank. It was a real good Russian sort of sow so I marked her and she got away.
We came out of there and started to another place when we got a rig strike, put them all down to a fairly cold track where some hogs had been traveling somewhat scattered feeding along their way, they went a half mile to a big creek and when they crossed it they jumped ran hard for 20 minutes somewhat scattered then all came together and bayed. They were close to a highway so we had pulled up on the road to play road guard, when I pulled off the road to park they had broke and were running full out again right at us on the highway just as they got there they turned away from the hwy and went another 500 yds and bayed again, when we got in there and sent the catchdog two sows came by us and right where we caught the big sow in the briars there was a wad of little pigs. Marked her and she fell off the bank into the big creek. It was too close to the hwy and with the little pigs there we didn't send the dogs on and came out of there.
Went on to one more place and struck a real cold track that had wandered and fed in the big creek bottom, the pups got a pick on the track out of a bad spot and lined out at a better pace but still not jumped. They got on over a half mile and jumped, the other dogs were a couple hundred behind them and the pups made a hook right into the other dogs they bayed, it was a pretty good ways to them and halfway we heard a hog squeal, in a minute they were baying hard again, they'd got off in a slough and the hog was backed up under a big trees roots. We caught her "another sow" and discovered she was 3 legged.
This was an exceptional hunt for numbers here for us and a great training hunt for the pups. I had only fed them electricity multiple times the previous hunt and had hoped to get them in some hog action with no electrircity this trip. All three races were average, not pop ups nor long fast races and I didn't even shock them once haha.
Sadly my catchdog pup doesn't look like she's gonna make, she doesn't have many more opportunities to come around. She'll be the first one of this breeding that didn't catch hard and immediately, that's just the way the cookie crumbles I guess.

That should give them a little direction for sure. Sounds like a real educational hunt. Hate that the catch dog isn’t going to make. Is she a Dogo out of your old dog?

First I had Dogo, he was Grip's uncle, Dogo was a rock solid catch dog and very laid back no problem kind of dog, not as well made as Grip but pretty is as pretty does. Then we got Lucy, she was Dogo's full sister but a younger litter, I gave her to my daughter to replace a bulldog of hers I had gotten killed a few years earlier. I didn't hunt Lucy much because she belonged to Chelsea but Dogo got a nasty cut in the leg hole of his vest and was sored up so I took Lucy for a few weeks. I had never shown her a hog and she fired to the first bay and locked down. Was able to catch 2 or 3 good boars with her, I wanted to know if she'd be able to take a lickin and still catch, she did. Dogo got Cancer so I bred Lucy to Chris Scotts Caesar male and raised Grip.

Sounds like you had a good thing going there for a minute. Hate that it didn’t work out for you. Deputy Dawg and I have 4 bulldog pups, 2 each. The females are litter mate sisters and the males are litter mate brothers. All have real good dispositions so far and prey drive. His male has already had a couple of chicken dinners lol. I’m hoping they all turn out and that they will cross back to each other successfully. I’m tired of not being able to find what I like. I haven’t even been close.
