Been making some casts when I can. Dogs have been doing their job at a high level. Spoon and Misty are hog dogs these days. King in 5 hunts has been on 19 hogs. And I bet he don’t see his 30th hog before I gets a solo strike and bay.
Tims pilgrim dog(littermate to spoon and Misty) is making a dog as well. Though he is not a fan of the fun. For some reason I have never really had any dogs that didn’t like being shot over or that I had to “gun break”. Pretty much every single dog of tims will leave a bay when they see you walk in with a rifle, even most the pups I give him.
Been some good solo hunts for me lately as I’ve had the time and buddies haven’t. Killed 7 with our gyps the other Saturday and left em baying. Knocked some around on the river after that with young dogs. Then last Friday and yesterday went and bayed some of my house hogs.

Snappin’ necks and cashing checks Slim, between you and Cajun I think you’ll have the feral hog problem under control in a couple years.

Good hunts Slim, is the Hi-tan one of those from the cross with t-dog? I don't remember any of the others having that coloration through the years.

Yessir. Hi-tan is definitely T-dogs blood shining through. Sketch had 3. The one pictured above is my partner Tim’s. This one was the runt and is right down the road with a buddy of mine hunter. And then I kept one I’d have to get a picture of, he’s more red/tan. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'd call the runt, Black and Tan as opposed to Hi-tan, sounds like the one that is more red/tan might be a Saddle Back. I don't think we should breed for color but "sometimes" there are traits within a strain that seem to go with different color schemes.

Yessir the runt is more of the “reverse cur” style. The red one I kept I call rusty I’ll take a picture of. I do not breed for color by any means, but I have noticed certain traits that tend to follow certain colors or variations of pattern. I would be lying if I said I haven’t chosen pups based off color. But not because of their color, but genes I expect to be associated with that phenotype. Here’s rusty back in October Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Old man, I get every color of the rainbow but mainly brindle, black/tan, high tan, the traditional blanketed walker look, white with different colored patches, and a few merles. The one pup of his is a liver and tan. He looks like this black and tan pup only bigger and liver instead of black. He’s a pretty dog. I didn’t see any ugly pups. Genetics are funny. I haven’t had a liver colored dog in probably 20 years. I guess my genetics and his genetics must both carry it for it to show up. I don’t know if that would considered a pattern or a color or both genetically.

My friend has a catahoula that shares the same coloration of your rusty dog, I’ve got a video he sent me of that dog baying a group of good sized hogs solo, I’d feed that dog all the days of his life.

Those liver and orange dogs are basically a dilute attached to black and tan, just like the blue mouse colors are another dilute attached to the black.

Don’t guess I realized the liver/orange was a dilute of the black/tan. I did know the mousie blue was akin or a dilute. The black/blue/and white are very close. The easiest example of that is the bully pit bulls. You taught me something there.

Dog coloration can get real deep in genetic terms, way over my head, but all dogs are basically red or black then all these alleles attach at different locus to make alterations in color and patterns.

I made them out of scrap.. They work pretty dang good. Top is Just a 2 7/8ths cut at ≈ 16” with a cap welded on it and whatever round stock/square tubing/ angle iron you have for the arm. Post is 2 3/8ths cut at ≈ 6’ drove 2.5’ deep. My partner and his cousin drive their post through the back of their barrels. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
