Larry Smith and I got invited to make a hunt with Highwater and his son Wes. It was a new place they acquired and they had the hogs baited up. When I say they had a abundance of mud and palmettos, that is a understatement. First turnout dogs trailed out and got bayed. Went in and caught a nice sow. 2nc turnout dogs got on a runner and we ended up catching the dogs off. Went to the other side of the property and turned out in some sign. Dogs trailed out and jumped. After a race the dogs caught another nice sow. We ended up catching dogs off another long race. I will say if a hog wants to run in that country it would be hard for dogs to run them down. It is wall to wall Palmettos and when we turned two bulldogs loose on the first bay, it sounded like tanks going through the Palmettos. All in all it was a great hunt and we sure appreciated the invite.

Sounds like a real challenge in those palmettos.

Good hunt for you guys, I have zero experience with palmettos, looks like they are just thick and hard for dogs to get through.

Cajun you mean that you took him and his boy to a nice easy place where he only had to deal with a little mud and water and he turns around takes you to a jungle? Man that just doesn’t seem right. Sounds like y’all made a good showing though.

I never could talk the sale barn into letting me bring em to hunt ..  LOL..  thats the only way I will ever be able to measure up to the spot that they have taken us...

There might be a hog behind every palmetto but I can promise you a dog better be ready to work for it ,, You cant see your feet when you walking thru that mess...

Come on Highwater, he’s old!

Lol just picking of course. Sounds like it was a good time regardless of the challenges. Anybody can catch the easy ones.
