Since turkey season is in, and things slowed down a bit I got the two stall addition on the kennel done.

That looks sharp. I was going to ask you about the dog houses. They are nice and dont break the bank.

Thanks Slim and Cajun, I was originally just looking for the blue barrels. Then I found this guy down the road who has stacks of pallets, barrels and boxes, as soon as I saw the boxes it was a no brainer for me. I modify them a little bit, prime and paint and they’re working good. I don’t know what a sheet of 3/4” plywood costs, but for $40.00 ea, it was “take my money” time.

I used to sandwich the wood around my doors with a hardwood because I had some dang house chewers. I had a bunch of maple that I had had milled. I had a few that would eat the whole front of a house in no time. I had one so bad that I made an angle iron frame. She used to crap presto logs.

Haha, you noticed that one, yeah Chopper tore that opening up, I’m going to have to do what you said, he also ate some of the roof off of his. But the thick plywood has enough layers to keep the water out for now

Those look real nice. They’ll be just right when you get about 4 dogs deep in each one.

They can be moved in and out of there, the one on the far right is a single box with a divider and it’s between the two stalls for the jagd’s. Or Jagd, I’m down to one now, that one I have screwed down but if it needed to be moved it can be done. All the others can be slid around or moved out no problem.

Thanks “T”, those two new young dogs double up in one box no problem for now. I’m trying not to collect too many dogs, I can only start so many pups at a time, plus my span of control is limited being a solo act.

You’re right about being it being hard to start too many young dogs. I’ve thought about you and those two new pups several times. I’m real interested to see how they turn out for you. I have zero doubt about them making dogs just curious about their style. You did good on that whole kennel set up.

I loaded them in the buggy yesterday for the first time to get them used to the program. We went to the 40 acres you see behind the kennel, I let the older dogs out first and Keith them in the buggy for a bit, then I let them out for the first time. After a little sniffing around they got excited and ran with the older dogs. The one kind of got unsure of himself (to be expected for a 4 month old) but Dan the red male was like a shadow to Chopper.

It’s gonna be fun watching them develop, I do like his long leggy look, he moved through the brush well negotiating in and around the briars. Chopper just runs thru them like a cannonball and gets cut to shreds, I’m hoping they lean more on the bay side of things, and only catch on command or what they can handle.

I like messing with pups like that. If you don’t have the luxury of being able to let them run out all the time you almost have to do that. If not it takes a few more hunts usually before they contribute. There are so many things to learn to navigate and new smells. I hope they turn out like your hoping. If not just blame Judge, lol.

I feel pretty confident they’ll hunt, it might be armadillos or possums or hogs, but I’m not gonna blame nothing on Judge, he’s built like a bear and I’m just a Stickman.  Grin

I have no doubt they’re going to hunt, like t dog said, just what style of dog they are remains to be seen. You know my work schedule Judge, you just say when.
