I took the young crew that I have out yesterday when the rain stopped, I wanted to check the area where they caught the last hog but just a little further down the road. I get to the trail I want to check and let the dogs out, of course they’re just running around in circles and peeing on everything while I get ready.

I get my backpack on, throw the leads over my shoulder and as I’m marking the the truck location on my garmin, my jagd and April the catahoula take off hastily right where I wanted to check. They start barking and I hear a hog rumbling and grunting, so I start running to them. Dan and Pete the brothers get there quick and the rumbling turns to cries for help from the sow. Seems like she was bedded down right next to the trail and they never let her run. She may have delayed her departure trying to protect her little ones, (I saw two escape).

Not a bad outing, young dogs get in the win column and no injuries. The two brothers turn 10 months old in a couple days and I like that they’re off to a decent start. Have a good weekend everybody.

Sounds like they catch better than my catch dog, but that wouldn’t take much, lol. You’re gonna have hog dogs on your hands pretty soon. Not a bad sow, in fact a real good one for those pups. Maybe they’ll get a big rough sow pretty soon that can back them up a little bit, unless you’re wanting them to be that rough?

Thanks WoW, yeah I always appreciate the easy, quit hunts that go well.

Thanks t dog, they’ve been getting out run lately so I was happy they had some success. I was hoping they’d prefer to bay, but after a few hogs it looks like they want to be running catch dogs, so I got them Aussie style running vests to try to protect them. I like that they’re getting on game they can handle, but I know it’s a matter of time before they tangle with something meaner. I hope they’re smart enough to back up and bay when that day comes, there are some bad hombres in these woods.

Sounds like a great way to start the morning and a good catch for the young dogs. Real nice looking sow.
