It was such a nice day, figured i’d take the dogs for an afternoon walk in the snow. I got to the spot about 2:00, giving me just a few hours of daylight. Make the first drop and the dogs hustle out a couple times for nadda, two of them end up back at the truck.

I figure if they’re at the truck I’ll road them to the next spot, start walking and make a loop. I’m more concerned here because I’m near Texoma and it’s covered in ice. They act like something is in the area but can’t quite get on them. I see plenty of old tracks but nothing fresh. As im coming closer to the truck the dogs move out, they’re about 360 or so and I can see thru the woods pretty good with the snow.

Three of them are together until they loop around me, Dan splits and goes toward the truck and Pete and April continue around me. I watch what they’re doing since I’m between the two, Pete and April make a couple loops then come up treed at about 350. I get into gear cuz Pete will try to catch. I go about 100 and check the gps and they’re still treed and not moving, now I’m urging my old legs thru the snow.  I couldn’t hear April till I got closer, they had this boar backed up in a ravine.

When I arrived at the scene, all the dogs were there which was the best outcome. I slid down behind the boar grabbed his tail and went to work. They stopped him about 300 from the truck and about 30 minutes of daylight left. We get back with no damage to any of us, by the grace of God.

Really good dog work and nice hog. It can be tough in the afternoon when sign is not as fresh and the dogs have to make it up by hustling.

Those dogs look like they were hangry! They’re a lot like me, it doesn’t matter what time a day it is, if I smell bacon I’m gonna have a mouthful.
