It wasn’t a whole lot of hunting but it was catching. Land owner sent me a video yesterday of a group of hogs in his bottom. So this morning Deputy Dawg and myself went out there. Ray started rigging as soon as we drove in the gate. I got out and all three of my dogs were locked in, staring to the north. Deputy Dawg said there the hogs are. They were just getting ready to go the brush about a 1/2 mile up the hill. We just let them go from the truck. These hogs a runners! The bay dogs get up there and start baying and then it’s silent. I said let’s wait here for a minute because there’s a good chance something is going to come off that hill heading to this bottom. Sure enough, like we were rattling a feed sack, here comes a tush hog. I mean you could see the pearls from way away. My buggy was still on the trailer and Ranger was on top of it. Deputy Dawg was waiting right in the hogs path. The hog got within 20-25 yards and he sent Rusty so I sent Ranger to help. Rusty missed and The race was on. Ranger was step for step and right on the hogs hip but not able to make any gain to ear him. Ole Rusty has wheels though. That 85-90# of red bulldog ran right past Ranger. I believe I heard him say watch out ole son let me show you how it’s done. They weren’t over 30-35 yards from the truck and Mr Boar was eared up on.  I’m the mean time the dogs were bayed up on the hill. We tried to open field two more boars but just weren’t close enough to beat them to the woods. They were only 180ish. The one we caught was 200+. We went to the bay and they had a sow caught in a tank. We put Ranger on a fishing line and reeled them to the bank. In about 5 minutes Ava and Dilly were bayed again at almost 600 yds. We get there and send the catch dogs but the hog broke. He went to the bottom and they had him bayed again. We caught him and load up the dogs. They didn’t want to quit but we weren’t going to press our luck. We were both hot but the dogs wanted to keep rolling so we made them come in. It wasn’t much for teaching the dogs anything but it was fun and easy.

First boar 200# maybe a little more

100# sow maybe a little bigger.
3rd hog was 180ish boar

Sakes alive, that boar has some teeth. That’s what I love about this thing we do, you just never know what will happen on any given hunt. A guy we bear hunted with in North Carolina told us, it can go from really boring to real exciting in an instant.

That sounds like a great hunt and what a boar. He really had some shanks on him.
