At the Callcott Ranch near Leakey Texas
The sun was starting to hover low in the sky shining directly into my eyes. I had been waiting in the hot sun for over and hour. I saw lots of whitetail and a few good axis bucks when Finally..... I saw long chaps and beards shining in the sun like gold.
They eased into the pasture and for the first time with the sun shining bright almost appearing to make them glow, I got to see an Auadad.
I was hoping for a Trophy ram but was allowed to shoot any Auadad. I waited for about 20min and decided that the sun would set and no other Auadad would appear.
When the young Ram stepped into the opening I lined the thick crosshairs of the browing A-bolt .280 square on his shoulders. I used my left hand to shade the sun off the scope so I could make out images. The thrust from the 175gr Sierra Grandslam rocked me back in my chair. I swiftly racked the bolt and found the 2nd Auadad in the scope. It was leaving quickly. I threaded another round into the large Ewe as it disappeared into the thick shin oak.
The Ram had gone about 30 yards and fell in the open. Unsure of the shot on the Ewe I unloaded Blue the tracking Catahoula and put her on the trail. We entered the Shin Oak thicket and recoverd the Ewe about 20yards into the brush.
I took home both Auadad and cut the meat up, It will provide a good diet of fresh meat for my hunting dogs for at least 2 weeks!
