I got 3 11 week old pups that bark all the time also, I wired a light in my kennel and leave it on at night and that seemed to help a lot. I have alot of horses and cows that head to my house at night and they dont help matters at all.

I stick with a red ryder bb gun and who cares if the bark collar is to hard, they figure it out quick.... as long as they are quiet!

Anyone ever tried one of those electronic kennel silencers?  Supposed to detect a bark, and emit an ultrasonic sound that can't be heard by humans but supposedly that dogs dislike?  I've seen them advertised and wondered if they work.

Actually the more you shoot around them, the more accustom they become to it. So don't shoot that shotgun to much, it might end up not working anymore.lol

I have raise pointers for a number of years and starting off with a shot gun is the worst thing you can do to a gun dog. I always start off with cap guns, 22 blanks, 410, then 12 gauge. Let you dogs get gun shy then youll be out on a hunt, maybe a truck or 4 wheeler will back fire and youll cover 2 counties trying to get you dog. I was training a buddies lab one time, he didnt tell me it was gun shy, shot a pheasant over the dog, dog took off with my shock collar and never found the dog or collar. Im not trying to be a smart A$$ about the subject, just letting some of my experience out there.

My neighbors thought it would be a great idea to hang one on my fence to make my dogs shut up.  A few hours later the dogs figured out where it was located and were baying it on the fence, I was standing in my kitchen laughing hard when the neighbor stormed outside and yanked it off the fence.  Grin

Thanks for the info. I never had pointers, can't afford a shock collar, and don't hunt with guns. Guess i'll stick with the shotgun.

I have an electronic kennel silencer, it works pretty well for plain ol kennel barking.  If the dog is agitated or excited, like say at feeding time it might ignore the beep, but when it's just barking for no reason it will shut them up.  you can set it for sensitivity and how many times they can bark before it hits them.

Lance,

Do you have the same one as the link I posted?

My puppies are what irritates me.  If I'm outside at the house I can hear them, but the kennels are too far away for me to holler at them to shut up.  They play all the time, and when they do they bark at one another.

Unless it's a hog at the other end of the line, the sound of dogs barking for no reason gets under my skin.

HAHAHA I'm the same way.  i always think to myself for someone who owns so many dogs I sure do HATE the sound of barking. (non-hog related that is)

Get a bark collar, they are effective, and not cruel to the dog in any way, I have experienced one first hand and it is not that horrible. They are relatively inexpensive probably around 60-100 bucks per dog depending on the model/manufacturer.  If you have a bunch of dogs and not enough money, just rotate the collars and eventually most dogs on your yard should understand that barking in the yard is not allowed. I use 2 bark collars on 6 dogs, just rotate to the ones that forget. Once they have worn it for a week or so they usually will stay silent for a least a month when you take it off until the next time they forget and need another reminder. thats my experience anyways. some dogs are just crazy, dumb, and hard headed though and will bark regardless.

My barn/kennels are about 150 feet from the back door. I use a bb gun, and I lob on in, when it "tinks" against the metal they stop barking.

I did read were one guy hooked up a sprinkler system to a switch in his house. If they were barking, he turned on the sprinkler, every dog hit their house, and stopped barking. then he turned off the water.

The sprinklers work for sure, i knew an old man who had a p.a. system hooked up outside, he would yell for them to shutup and if they didnt the sprinklers went on.

My dogs will only bark for two reasons in the pen (usually)
1. someone is coming down my driveway
2. there are hogs in my pasture

Water deterents are only temporary.  Once they get used to it, that does not even slow them up.  I know from experience. Wink
