i met up with hercules on sat for a hunt. my sunny gyp(bmc)was cut up and i wasn't sure if was going to hunt her, but i decided to go ahead and let her run. we had kopa, nala, and simois, all leveridge dogs(and ironically all realted). kopa and nala are littermates and simois is a half sister to kopa and nala and oj hercules' pit cd.
we cut the dogs loose and we hunted them in front of the atv. sunny is the most experienced dog of all of them and she was just moving slow. i should have put her up then, but i let her tough it out to see how she would respond. we rode for a good while with no luck. several times i thought we were in business as the dogs all got pretty hoggy, but nothing came of it. we went to another portion of hercules' land and we decided to get off the atv and walk to see if we could get in the thick areas and strike something. well about 5min after walking we got a good solid bay going.
i can't say who opened up first i just know that we had a good bay going. we cut hercules' oj dog loose and he went to the bay, i held off on cutting simois loose as the last time i cut her loose she didn't go to the bay cause she wasn't used to me yet. i got a little closer and i finally cut her loose. hercules' is hollering at me to get there cause we got a good one. when i get there, simois is locked on, oj is locked on, nala is tearing the snout up, and kopa has an ear. i mean those dogs did well. sunny was the oldest one at a little over a year and a half.
we inspected the dogs and we saw that oj had a nice little poke in his chest and sunny had another poke in her shoulder. sunny was limping real hard now so i decided to put her up. we rode around a bit more and i called it a night cause i wanted to doctor up sunny.
evaluating the leveridge dogs..kopa hunts the hardest out of all of them right now, but she has been running with sunny who is really burning the woods up. she has also been in the woods more. nala is great speed and she will really lay the teeth to a hog. she doesn't need much to get her to hit a hog. she isn't ranging out the way we would like yet but i figure in a month or so she will be out there with kopa. simois is still young(only 8mos) and she is still warming up to me. i was proud cause this time when i cut her loose she went straight to the bay, but when she got there all teh ears were taken so she had to find a place to hit, she ended up getting an ear in the end when one of the strike dogs moved. all three show a TON of potential and with time i think they will all be above avg dogs.
oj is small but has a huge heart. he did great. he too has the potential to be a lockdown jam up cd.
my sunny gyp is a machine. i'm so proud of her. she is batting 1.000 when i cut her loose to find a hog. she is a tight baynig rough joker now. she doesnt' want that hog to move. if it thinks about moving she is laying teeth. i like that cause it should help with stopping those runners, but she is getting cut everytime out now. i'm laying her up for a month now. when she is healed up i'm goign to see if she is still getting cut up all the time. if so then i think i may run a bay vest on her to protect her a bit. kopa will get a lot of experience here for teh next month. we'll see if she can stop them by her self.
