Last sunday Scott and I went and scouted some new country around some corn and watermelon fields.Well The farmer has been screaming so I went this morning by myself I took Tex a 3yr and Bill a 9 or 10 month old.I didn't want to have dogs bayed a couple of different places so one grown dog and one puppy is enough it being as hot as it is and me being by myself. I lost a good young dog because of my stupidity and his will not to quit so I really try to watch it.Anyway I saw where I thought the hogs had came into the corn I turned out at 6 Tex is really independent so the pup went one way Tex the other no dogs for about 12 to 15 minutes and no baying so I started to track no then I called Scott and told him I was hunting he just loved that as he was driving home from working all night. The dogs had some how got south of me toward a thicket along a old fence row and then I heard the Tex cut down on one. Well I know it wasn't a deer because he whines and yips when his running a deer so it had to be a hog and then my pup started baying grabbed my catch dog Mann and headed that way.I called Scott back so he could hear them chopping his head off he was around a pond so I was easying in there when it broke and he was a good  boar hog 200+ remember its my story and I was the only person there he might have went 400+.They stopped him I guess or he just stopped who really knows until you catch him but I never did smell him so he could have been a barr but anyway  he left I meaned pulled out well I left the tracker in the truck 200 yds away so I tracked from the truck they were over yonder. So I got in my truck drove about 1/2 mile closer and then my pup came out then my Tex dog staggering it was only 8 hog got away but it was exciting I hope he comes back. Becareful guys its hot in the corn and anywhere right now. Des

Good story Des. This heat will get them dogs quick. I've had several and seen several over heat thru the years. It always seems to be this time of year... late spring/early summer. Keep huntin' 'em hard and when summer really gets here they'll be ready to roll. Grin

I lost the best hunting dog I ever owned to the heat.  She just wouldn't quit until she fell over dead.  I learned my lesson the hard way and have been extremely conscience of the heat and how dogs are behaving in the heat ever since.

Sounds like fun hunt Des.

Took Savoy to the swamp and he promtly got his v-card punched.

He's out.  And you're out.  And i don't think I'm in either.
