went to big game houndsman.com read a story about a man hunting mountian lions in montana and a pack of wolves came up and killed two of his dogs while they were treeing a cat. it said the forest service turned a bunch of grey wolves loose and several cat hunters have reported their dogs getting killed. also said that livestock attacks have picked up as well. sure glad we dont have that problem around here.

the oklahoma wildlife dept. decided we need wolves introduced here in ne oklahoma. i thought it was just roumor until i was camped last spring in some big country up here and sat around the campfire listening to wolves howl. nothing will make the hair stand on the back of your neck like a wolf howling just outside of camp. i havent heard of any livestock problem yet, just a matter of time..

I don't think anything like that will happen here in texas. Too many rednecks out in the sticks to put up with animals like that terrorizing their livestock and pets!

Yeah thats what they used to say in Montana and Idaho. The problem with wolves (again!) up North at this point is almost old news now. I've kept up with it on other hunting sites and state field reports the last few years. I have seen first hand how a wolf pack can decimate an elk herd. It is sickening to say the least! It may not be public knowledge for the most part but states like Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming are near panic over this issue. State and National government agencies are still battling each other over control and we all know what happens in this situation..................Nothing. Meanwhile the wolf packs are busy multiplying, and decimating the deer and elk populations along with the livestock! When the Idaho fish and game sent me a letter asking why I haven't been hunting in their beautiful game filled state my reply was short and to the point: I will not spend my hard earned money on an elk tag in Idaho again unless I can purchase a wolf tag with it! I have a mouth call I am dieing to use again and it works great on wolves. My elk bugle! :'( Just how many wolves do they think we freaking need anyway?!!!! OK Im done. Didnt mean for it to turn into a rant.

They wont say for a reason. Fear of public outcry! Believe me, these people have their own agenda's and they will fly under the radar as long as they can! Its the same old story just moving South is all. Good luck Oklahoma.

I bet its a cat. The same thing happened to a friend of mine and his neighbors in Magnolia TX. several years back. He called me out of the blue one morning to tell me something had just pulled a Freddie Kruger on his dogs during the night. It turned out to be a big black cat about the size of a 75-80 pound dog according to his description. He saw it a few days later out riding his 4 wheeler. Said it had a big thick tail that was longer than its body and he tried to run it down. It eventually killed 2 of his neighbors dogs also. We tried calling and baiting it but had no luck. We finally gave up hunting it. His cats quit sleeping on the roof of the house and we figured it cleared out.

yeah those big game hunters up north are about tired of there dogs bayin and having a pack of wolves swarm down and kill their dogs/read those articles on that web site and they talk about a 5 yr old kid getting killed by a pack of wolves in wisconsion they say that in one of their towns they have spotted wolf tracks within half a mile from an elemeentry school. there is a problem in this country when animals have more rights than people. do they not think the trappers and hunters from100 years ago had the right idea .some animals are not meant to co exist with people

I dont know about deep east Texas but there are big cats (mountian lions/cougars) around here in Central and Southeast-Central Texas. They are still here and never went away, nobody had to turn them loose. Same story for Red wolves but they are not much more than a glorified coyote with federal protection, Nothing like grey wolves. However I've seen both species in the wild and seen cougars on several occasions and heard reports several times a year from people who I trust thier word and believe me I am a very skeptical person. Seems to me like we could take a lesson from the past and turn the Cur dogs loose at night and see what it thinks about a hand full of pissed off Cur dogs rather than one dog on a chain.
My dad has had coyotes come and attack his dogs on the chain, of course he always has some running loose, so I hate to think about the lesson they taught the coyotes. On second thought its not so bad to think about. lol

If it was a lion the dogs would be gone. I agree except for dogs on a chain. If a cat wanted them bad enough and had the time, yes it could probably get em off a chain and drag them away. I dont think this guy gave it enough time before he turned on lights and ran outside with his shotgun. I never saw the cat myself but I dont doubt it was one. We found his neighbors collie about 8 feet high in a tree less than 200 yards in the woods from her property. It wasn't on a chain like my friends dog was though. We never found the third dog so we blamed it on the cat also. For that matter hogs and coyotes have done about the same kind of job on chained dogs in residential neighborhoods around Houston.

You win WestTexasCurs ! Because I wouldn't bet money on it "being" a lion. Just guessing. The only reason Im guessing "lion" to begin with is because "hogbuyer's" dogs were getting dragged off after he unhooked them the next day. From what I understand cats will kill for the sport of it even when they are not hungry. They will usually drag a kill off and leave it in a tree out of reach of the competition but may not return to it to feed. I love the Discovery Channel! lol. Sounds like you probably have some experience with lions. I don't exactly agree or disagree with you but I don't have anymore experience with them other than what I have already shared. Any further debate out of me would be just a bunch of crap. If you are that certain its not a lion I would assume that you may have at least a good guess on what it could be. If you dont mind at least tell us why you are so certain its not a lion.

Whoops! Who is getting stirred up? I think you took me out of context and I didnt realize you were calling BS on me. I said, anything else I debated on would be BS because I admittedly dont know crap about lions. I aint mad at all. I am genuinely interested in hearing your opinion that you seem to be so reluctant to give. Ive kept up with your posting since I have been on this board and have always respected what you have had to say. Im sorry if my reply came across as sounding defensive. I didnt mean it that way. Just genuinely interested on why you think its not a lion is all. Honest. If you are calling BS on me that is fine but is it to much to ask you to explain why? It couldnt have been a yetti. We hunted them out a few years ago around here.
