Down here in florida it's very cut throat. A few people have access to most of the land around.
Its pretty much the same around here. The people who truly respect the landowners, can and will show up when the land owners request due to current hog destruction (as opposed to just showing up when the hunter feels like it) and have taken the time to build a good reputation are the ones that have most of the land tied up. The rest just feed on the leftovers. For allot of people these land owner relationships are a couple decades old and have more to do with being a part of the agriculture community than it does with hog hunting. One person just happens to have hog dogs so they are the one that keeps the hogs population thinned down for any particular agricultural community. In a sense you have to be respected as a peer and not as an outsider and most of the time it involves more than just "hey I can get rid of a few hogs for you". Some people might not like that it is that way, but that IS the way for the most part, and I personally like that it is that way. Now I take more people hunting that don't and probly won't ever have hog dogs. I also hunt with other people who have thier own dogs and they also have thier own places. I won't take someone else hunting that has hog dogs but does not have thier own places to hunt and more than just a few at that. To me that just says they were'nt willing to take the time and pay thier dues, they just want instant gratification and thats not a good way to do business. Patience is a virtue. As far as hunting a place behind my back well. thats a good way to stop hunting with me, but thats what I get for taking someone who has not earned my trust yet. but Karma will turn around and bite them. There is not such thing as a free lunch. Waylon

The guy we took was out of a favor to a farm manager, I said from the get-go he was up to no good but my husband let him tag along any way out of respect to the manager... so a few months later when he tried to wedge his way into our place we showed him that we could get his places if we wanted but wouldnt out of respect to him....well now he is complaining about others who hunt "his place" to where it isnt worth going - I say Karma is a ****!

We got alot of them backstabbers here in missouri to,but our biggest problem is dog thieves & guys that ride around lookin for a truck parked w/a dog box in back, then they scour the woods waitin for the bay.I for one do not tolerate this type of behavior, friend or no friend the dogs are all I need to get hogs anyway.I wont hunt someone elses spot with them till they have hunted with me on my spots,& NEVER go behind their backs & hunt their spot or even tell anybody else about their spot. But some guys try to follow you around if your gettin alot of hogs. We've sent several guys on a wild goose chase

I've been trapping and hunting hogs for over 20 yrs now and I have had a couple of places stolen from me too. The last one was not to long ago by a person just getting into trapping and he got a contract with a city to "eliminate ALL the feral hogs" hahahaha and he is so new to the sport he probably thinks he will.
they should be hung just like cattle thiefs....

Some thing else to think about is these land owners. Where is the loyalty? If you are clear with the landowners that you will only hunt for them if you have the exclusive right to run dogs that will cut out that back door stuff.

It's nice to think that way Eric, but it's not the way it works. Just learned that lesson. The only thing it does accomplish is the fact that after you're screwed over the other land you turned away has gone to other hands so you're standing their holding some dogs and no land to run em on.

The biggest reason Zach and I havent really put some dogs together yet is this very reason. Seems like most properties have guys already hunting them and we dont want to piss any one off. So we are still looking and checking leads here and there.
We decided from the start we needed land before we started feeding more dogs.

The toughest part of hog hunting is trying to keep good places to hunt. Most of the bullsh!t that goes along with hog hunting has to do with this very thing.. Around here you gotta be real careful who you trust because a lot of people will try to back door you.. If you get a good place it's a good idea to not show up with a convoy of Trucks 4-wheelers and 30 dogs, just don't look good to the landowner..

Here is a disrespect story for you...has my blood BOILING. A buddy of ours that we have been hunting with for a year or so has been going intermittently with someone else that we "know of" and have ran into a few times while hunting. We have been telling him for months that he is up to no good but I think he finally learned his lesson. My husbands buddy was telling us about going hunting in an area that butts up to our place and my husband told the guy that the man didnt have permission to hunt it, he only had permission to go get this dogs IF they crossed into there. Well they hunted it a few hours and then left; the guy that had "permission" hung around the truck all night - now mind you he is a smart man cause he had the other guy drive his truck... Well the buddy calls back today and says "well you will never believe but old ***** took Lucky's Rymadil". Now, Lucky is the dog that had his guts cut out a week ago and while I do not personally give them the pain portion of the meds for over a week I think it is BS that you not only have to worry about someone stealing your spots or poaching them but now you have to worry who is in your truck with you....

How about this one.
Had permission to hunt the dump, only I had the key. Took a guy out there a couple of times, a couple of days later I got a call that they wanted the key back. The guy I took out there cut the lock on the gate and went out there. Well they have a camera right by the gate. The manager knew it was the guy I brought with me. I really got screwed on that deal.

I had a guy that hunted with me a couple times and me and him went out to a guys house that i had permission to trap at. he only had 20 acres and the hogs were coming in and tearing his place up. The next day i got a call from the land owner to come get my traps cause he caught the guy and some of his friends out there with dogs getting ready to turn loose. This guy had told his buddies that he had permission to hunt it. i dont have anything to do with him now
