anyone that knows me know i like rough dogs, dogs that will get in the hogs face or bite it on the @ss to set it or spin it around, now that being said, my 9 month old and my buddies 9 month old pups are pretty much straight catching, and not on little shoats either these have been some decent size pigs, one cut the hell out of one of our bulldogs.
these dogs come from excellent parents and i have been really stoked about their hunt, in fact its been quite awile since our last dry run and i think the pups have a lot to do with that, but on our last hunt doofus (who at 2 is as rough as they come) was the only one barking, the pups just went in and caught.
think they will grow out of this? should we try running them by themselves? any advice would be appreciated.

Gave a very good freind of mine a male YBMC that is out of his male dog and my female. He has been on hogs since he was 6 months old. He just turned a year old, And looks like he is as old as his daddy. He still one of the roughs catching YBMCs he has. Dont think he will ever backup from one. But he must really like them becuase he just got two more from me, bread the same way. If you raise rough dogs you have got to keep young dogs coming all the time.

yeah one of the reasons im already lookin for a female to breed mine to, he basically went from goofy do nothing puppy to "drop the tailgait and he is gone to find a pig in a hurry" type dog, and this just happened over a very short period of time, his hunt to me is unreal for his age (9 months) he is just a little to rough now, i hope he backs off before he gets hurt to bad or worse, he definately has it going on for the hunting part, i just wish he could remember to bark before he bites, lol.

Glad to hear they have so much hunt...your post sounds like you know what your doing, try a bay pen with a hog you know cant be caught. I would keep hunting them the way you will hunt them in the future. It seems like I have been around of alot of my freinds bob dogs that if they live through the second bad cut they settle down and get hog smart.

If you raise rough dogs you have got to keep young dogs coming all the time. That pretty much sums it up right there. Nearly all the catahoulas is used to own started out real rough and catchy. When they finally figured it out, if they figured it out... was usually between 2 and 3 years old.

they come from a bmc male who was killed last year by a truck and a kemmer cur female who is a coon/squirrel dog, their dad was kinda rough but not as much as these pups are. RL my pup on the left, this pic come from a hunt where these 3 bayed and caught a pretty good sized sow, was probably the best bay ive ever seen. skeeter, daniels pup, the yellow one, the two pups are carbon copies of each other in the woods buster the dad, has really been missed
