Here in the Brazos, I've experiened on many occasions that an individual tends to think that every hog that is bayed is because of HIS dog. I'm not one to get in a pissing contest, but we hunt up to 10 dogs at a time and this gets old. Anyone else have a quick claim friend (as if no-one elses dogs could or would be the one who found or first bayed every pig caught!). Funny thing is--when he isn't with us, we do just as good!!!

i hunt with two guys Marty and Korey. They both have great start dogs, but when it becomes a pissing contest it causes problems. They don't compete and i am just happy if my pups make a bay right now. We don't hunt with other people and the people we did hunt with that always wanted to take credit don't hunt with us anymore. Every dog will have there days and we all three know who we can except to strike at this point. Our pups will get better and then it will be harder to tell, but bottom line is we go out to catch hogs, not see who's dog will strike first. Just my 2 cents but i wouldn't hunt with the guy anymore. if its on your mind now when your not hunting im sure it bothers you when you are, why have something bothering you when your trying to do what you love.

Everyone that has been in the sport for a lengthy time has experienced this person a FEW times. I may be one of the few people that actually like hunting with someone like that, y you ask because the look on there face when there dog is licking my boots and mine are still hunting and finding hogs there is NO answer for them to give . And most of the time they are newbies and are excited for there dogs and i have no problem with it, but dont get me wrong it wont be a weekly hunt with them just a once in a while thing Honestly i dont care whos dogs do what as long as i get to listen to the music of the bay and the rush of not knowing what is on the other side of it, heck one reason i get rid of my old dogs i dont have to feed and care for em but still get to hunt whenever i want (Good Friends)

That is why I hunt alone, that way I dont have to prove to anyone every time it is my dog/dogs that do all the work.
No really sometimes a good pissing contest is needed, it will shut them up or send them home either way what have you lost.
Put up or shut up is what I would tell em.

Thats why when I hunt with ceratin people we all just know that CHICO gets all the credit even when he is at home in the kennel and we are catching hogs. It keeps things simple that way and no argueing

oh don't get me wrong i am competitive as well, but when it's over and over agian and there is no telling that person any differently it gets old. yes my buddies will tell me if i am doing something they don't like as well. Marty and I sometimes just hunt with are wives when Korey can't go and when you get a girl in the mix they will tell exactly what they are thinking. The hard part is we have a couple of strike dogs that when they know they have help close by they won't even open up, they just latch on, so when someone new comes along and heres there dog open up, they may not realize Marty's dog or Korey's dog is already there and trying to catch. all in all to me it's about having a good time and catching pigs or getting burned by them, it's fun either way. Maybe take Boarninja's advice and confront him about it in a blunt way or a nice way and see where it goes.

I like to run with alot of different people and their packs when I am getting a dog started and they usually have a friend or family member who also brings a dog so I have ran into this "That's my dog" or "So & so stopped that one" guys on a few occasions but like a few people have mentioned I just blame it on the dog that ain't there or just let it go and hope my dog gets some action that hunt. I have been known to throw down a little wager with friends as we leave the truck on whos dog will strike first or how big of a pig we will catch but it is all in fun and for the drinks at the end of the day.

I am quick to say who I hear at a bay (no matter whose dog it is) because depending on what dogs are there and who is on their way dictates how quickly we try to get there. If I hear tweety and brandy, its not as urgent as if say Tiger (rip) is the one there. If you recognize a couple of the rougher or younger dogs baying, there is more urgency to get there. With older dogs we can take our time. I love the dogs we hunt with even when they are our buddies' dogs. For me, it is just as good of a feeling to hear Smiley, Mandy, or Hunter open up as it is to hear my own dogs bay.
Cheers M

I've hunted with several people like that... "my dog this", "my dog that", usually the first hunt was the last. I hunt for the enjoyment, watching the dogs work and the good company of family and friends... not a competition.

Last hunt I made with Richard and Bryant....my dogs had struck and bayed pretty much all the hogs. Most of the time they would be back in the ranger before we even got the hog killed.
